Disney theme park in South Africa?

This has been in the news here in South Africa for the last couple of days; South African government officials have been involved in talks with Disney regarding the possibility of opening a Disney park here! More details at the link below:

Sweet! So far, if you believe the rumours, Disney is talking to people about building parks in Peru, Brazil, Cyprus, South Africa, Indonesia, Dubai, and Australia, plus additional parks in the US states of Texas, Michigan, Illinois, New York, South Carolina, and Nebraska!

That's too funny!

I have to say that reactions here are very mixed, as many here believe it is completely inappropriate to invest in such a venture in Africa while there are so many basic needs which need to be addressed.

Oh snap...I didn't know Michigan was going to get a park too. Maybe I won't have to move from this struggling state.

I forgot that Disney was also supposedly in talks to purchase Mall of America, turn part of the stores into a DVC megaresort, and retheme the roller coaster there into a Rock'N Roller Coaster with a Motown theme.

So you can add Minnesota to the states rumoured to get a Disney resort!

Vanessa, I agree with those in your country that feel there are many other needs that need to be addressed first. I think Disney would only build a theme park where there is a sufficient local population to support one. Which is why far-wealthier Australia won't be the site of such a park either.
