I've been reading about the possible Disney staff strike at WDW and was wondering if the staff aboard the Disney ships would be affected by the strike as well? We are leaving Dec 5th on the Wonder after spending 4 nights at WDW.

Where did you read about this? I hope it doesn't happen, we have a surprise Christmas gift for our daughter that includes 2 nights at WDW and then off on the special 7 day cruise that is Tues. to Tues. over New Year's Eve. Kathy

They have asked a Federal mediator to step in. I've done several stories on this over the past few months in my newscast.
Wow, according to the article, starting wages are only $6.70 an hour. Amazing low for a union wage. Of course, I'm in California where the minimum wage is $6.75 an hour.
As for the cruise line, no effect I can see, everyone on board is a non-union worker working under a personal services contract.
I think some are only paid $100 a month plus tips.

Just read the article. I hope it gets settled soon. It amazes me how little Disney pays and not even a 40hr work week. Ouch. Kathy

Disney and the union have reached a tentative settlement....must be voted on but they feel there will be no problem....and yes, the rate of pay the people receive is in my opinion, not fair.

well welcome to low income jobs in areas were the schools are to expensive to go to and not usually worth half what you paid for.

I work 40 a week and 3 years into this job i only bring home 11,200 a year. and thats a decent wage in OK for non 4 year degree.
