The Disney Stores comes up from time to time so I thought I would mention my recent visit.

I was in New York City last weekend (12/29/2024) and had friends that wanted to see the New Years set up in Time Square so we walked over. We don’t normally go to Times Square so I went into the Disney Store to see what they had. I was bummed that the escalator was not working so you could only see the downstairs part of the store.

They had a lot of holiday merch, all of which was on Shop Disney, nothing unique to NY or from the parks. None of the holiday merch was on sale, it was well stocked. They had a NYC area (no nyc pin I asked, pins were upstairs). They had tshirts, sweatshirts, water bottles and a really cute Dooney bag all specific to nyc. Lots of stuffed animals and a few clothing items for adults and kids. I know pins are upstairs because I asked about them but not sure what else is upstairs.

It was crazy crowded I counted 72 people waiting in line to pay. There was a line to get in, one person out, one person could go in.

Glad it is still bustling! When I clicked I thought I was going to read it was closing.

I remember when the store opened, it was widely celebrated as a sign that crime was defeated in the Times Square area which was hell on earth when I was a little kid.

If it was NYE and towards their early closing, they would have shut down the escalator and closed the second floor so that cast members could be getting it set for opening the next day and then when the store closed have everything staged to set the first floor. Cast members have to be completely out of the building by like 2pm.

I worked there a few years ago and remember that was the only day management assigned us to shoppers to encourage them along. It's possible that they just keep the second floor closed on NYE to prevent any issues.

It was December 29. The CM I spoke to said the escalator had been broken for about 2 weeks and they were waiting for a part to fix it.

Oh wow. They didn't have the elevator going? We always had to have that going when the escalator broke. Or one side was left open to walk up and down.

I guess with the holiday crowds they decided it wasn't worth the hassle and just easier to close the second floor now that I think about it.

I was shocked I’ve never seen it closed. The CM I talked took the elevator up and brought down the pins for me to see. He told me it was to crowded to use the elevator and someone fell on the escalator so they weren’t letting people walk on them. (Which is odd because MSG has people walk on them every time I go there with them not running) I think people were upset they couldn’t go upstairs he kept trying to tell me why I couldn’t. I never asked to, I just asked if they had any nyc pins.

Some of the Disney Stores used to be really cool. The store in Vegas (at the Caesar's mall) and the London stores were outstanding. I remember when the Times Square had some unique items too. I've been to the stores in Rome and Paris over the past few years, nothing special but the Paris store had an interesting layout.

I wish we still had our Chicago Disney Store.
Every time I drive by the location I look at it and get bummed that it’s gone. They had some fun exclusive Chicago Disney merch in there.

I miss our STL store too! :(
