Disney Store Ticket Upgrade Question

Hi there! I've read through the forum, but can't find an answer to my question.
I can't seem to wrap my head around the upgrade options.
Can someone please help?

My family and I are heading down to WDW during May. We're staying offsite in a vacation home. We also have another trip planned in September with FD.

I want to get our tickets through the local Disney Store. I have, from last year's FD package, a 1-day park hopper ticket. I would like to upgrade to an AP when visiting in May. What would be my best option when purchasing a ticket through the Disney Store? Obviously, I want to take advantage of the pricing here in Canada, and upgrade when I get there.

We have friends coming with us in August - they bought four passes at the Disney Store in Canadian funds (so 'at par' even though they don't advertise that it is) - they want 10 day passes when they get to WDW, so they bought the 7-day park hopper water park & more passes, and they will upgrade to the 10 day when they get there (it's only $10-20 or less each pass to add 3 days).
I bought a 7 day park hopper for our upcoming trip and am upgrading to a DVC annual pass when we get there - paid $297 Cdn, and so it will cost $141 to upgrade with the exchange.

I have read that in order to upgrade, you must use your pass at least once, or you don't lock in the price that you have and they will charge you the difference. So ensure you use your ticket once before you upgrade.

I went to the Disney Store in the Georgian Mall, super nice CM there who has tons of Disney knowlege to share, he was happy to hear I was a fanatic as well.

He said the at par tix are def. the best discount right now & they've been told there's a price increase coming, so don't wait too long.

BTW, that store only had 7 day, I bought non hopping as I will upgrade at WDW, HTH!

You already have a one day pass with PH....if you buy another ticket you can only use one of the tickets to upgrade to an annual pass. You cannot combine the value of two seperate tickets to upgrade.

I know exactly the CM you are talking about I have dealt with him before it is so nice to see someone working there who obviously loves Disney!

I went today to buy 7 day MYW PH + and they had a small stack of them (7?)
