disney stockholders

We have some disney stock and received a letter in the mail that stated that while transferring some data back up tapes to a off site facility, some boxes came up missing. In this box was info that contained social security, address and name. They listed a number to call to enroll for free monitoring. Did anyone else get this? What do you think?

Everyone in my family received that same letter Friday. We have not taken any action on it but I am going to call the number on the letter and call Disney to check it all out before I do anything. Has anyone checked into this?

I am not a stockholder, but I've had this happen with other businesses, the free monitoring is generally useful, the one I had for a year sent me email if anything changed on the credit report.

You can also call each of the agencies and ask that a freeze be put on your credit report, this prevents anyone from opening an account without you specifically taking some action with the credit bureau - don't do this if you plan to open a new account in the next 3 months though.

Many others on the DIS have received the letter including myself. There was another thread about this. I already have a credit monitoring service, so I am not going to do anything about it. If you are concerned, call and have them set up the free credit monitoring for you.

In reality, there is probably very little to worry about. I worked in the IT industry for 30 years. Tapes get lost. They are often found later. People just put them where they don't belong. Even if someone were to find them, unless they own a large mainframe computer, they would not be able to read the information on the tapes. I'm not worried.

We received this letter as well. Interestingly, DH got a letter about a month ago regarding a different account (also tapes that went missing) and he signed up for the free credit monitoring. This letter is in my name, so I will do the same.

I didn't get the letter? But our disney stock is thru td ameritrade. Is it just certain stockholders that got this letter? Thanks.

I'm glad I'm not the only one to receive this letter. I plan on calling to check more into it. Thanks for the responses. At first, I was upset, but I do feel a little better after your post Ferlapeg and to know others are receving this letter. Frankiesmom, my friends have Disneytock through another company and they have not recieved this letter.
