Did anyone else get notice today of data being "unaccounted" for? Apparently a box of data backup tapes is unaccounted for - and on those tapes were my name, address, ss# and share ownership information.

Grrrrrrrrrrr.

Of course the cynical part of me wonders if the letter is actually a hoax....
anyone else receive one?

I got the same letter last week. I haven't decided what I'm going to do, I guess I'll go with their offer to monitor my credit report.

We got our letter today also. The strange thing is ...... the letter is addressed differently than how the stock is registered. The letter was addressed to DS and Me (UTMA), even though the stock is registered to DS and DH (UTMA). I am going to insist on the protection agreement for all three of us. I'm glad they are willing to provide the protection, but I don't think two years is long enough.

Mellon Shareholder Services has misplaced a box that was being moved to storage. That box contained shareholder information like name, address, ssn, etc.

I got a letter last week.

I got my letter, and I plan to sign up for the credit monitoring service that they offered. This isn't the best time in the world for them to lose our personal info--we're in the process of buying a home.

I'm glad this was posted because I was also a little worried it was a scam--I guess I'll sign up for the credit monitoring, but I'm still a little suspicious.

We received it yesterday. These things happen all the time. As long as you monitor your credit and know what charges/accounts should be there hopefully you won't have any problems. If you see something odd just act on it quickly. I can't even tell you how many times I have received letters like this in the past couple of years, I must have a dozen free credit monitoring services by now. In fact just last month I received a letter from my credit union stating that someone had hacked into the system and they had no idea what kind of information had been compromised so they cancelled all debit/credit cards and issued new account numbers but that does nothing to protect my name/address/ss# .

Is there any consistency to what box was stolen, I mean people with last names A-J for example, certain states, certain last SSN numbers?

Received mine yesterday and signed up for the credit monitoring. Considering that the tape was lost in February and we are just being notified now, I am not too worried about it. ITA agree with the posters who say you should watch your credit closely regardless of whether someone has lost your info.

For those of you who haven't received a notice yet, you may want to check with shareholder services if you haven't heard in a week or two as the notice looked like junkmail or a spoof so it may have been tossed!
