Disney Spoiled

We just returned from a trip to Jamaica and we stayed at A Sandals all-inclusive resort. And I just have to say I think we are spoiled when we stay at Disney!

I had read different reviews before we left on our vacation and I expected some lush and gorgeous resort. Don't get me wrong - it was nice but it did not compare to what we get at Disney!

We are definitely spoiled by Disney - THANK YOU DISNEY!

I agree! We just returned from a 4-night Carnival cruise. It was nice - the cruise line was chosen by the friends we traveled with. We did have a great time, but my husband and I commented that we have been spoiled by the "polish" of Disney. Nobody looks after the details like they do!

We know what you mean. We are actually going to Sandal's Dunn's River in two weeks, sort of a business trip, it's just hard getting excited about going.
Looking forward to our end of April trip to the world.

I so agree with the "polish" observation. I didn't know how to put it in words but we have felt the same thing. Particularly on a vacation to San Diego where we had booked a "breakfast with Shamu". What a joke, right from the check in station things were not organized correctly. I had commented to DH that Sea World could take lessons from WDW!

A little off topic, as this isn't comparing Disney to another "luxury" vacation. On our last trip in Oct., the day we left WDW, we drove about 1-1/2 hours to Eustis, FL, to visit my DH's grandmother. We visited with her and took her out to eat. Not knowing that area, we asked her to choose the place. She chose a Golden Corral. Ok, other than at WDW, DH & I are NOT buffet fans, so that wasn't appealing to begin with. But we were astounded at how dirty the buffet and the floor surrounding it were. I mean, goodness, we had just visited Crystal Palace and Chef Mickey's and 1900 Park Fare where they serve hundreds each day and they were SPOTLESS! DH just looked at me & said, "Wow. Really makes you appreciate Disney, doesn't it?"

The Sandals resort was very clean - it just needed some major renovation to the pool (which is not heated - referring to the "fresh water" pools), the rooms were a little beat up. Our friends rooms needed to be gutted - mold mildew - stink. We were there with a group of 140, the travel agents with us even commented that some of the rooms needed to be condemend...The staff was great - you just didn't have the fresh flowers and flower gardens etc...the little extra touches that Disney does

I agree totally, last August w e had a 3 week honeymoon. 2 weeks at the Poly (lucky us!) 1 week at none other than ATLANTIS in the Bahamas (not so lucky us!) I hated it. Food was awful and waaaaaaaay overpriced, cigarette ends everywhere, children running amok and all the 'behind the scenes' stuff did not go on behind the scenes, I do not wish to see boxes of frozen burgers and fries being pushed on a cart from A to B and if I were at Disney i would not. I will never go there again and I dreamed about it from being in my teens. However we will be returning to the world this year (fingers crossed)

That is too funny as I uttered the same exact word to my husband last year at Sea World in Orlando. On our upcoming trip in 21 days, we are not leaving Disney. As much as DH, and DS love the "fish" at Sea World...too bad, unless they start to Disneyify they won't see us.

I hadn't really thought of it before, but it's so true. DS and DD's first visit to WDW was in 2002, which started a sort of tradition of annual summertime "family adventures." We've gone to two different Six Flags and a whale watch since, and I was vaguely disappointed each time, and I couldn't put my finger on exactly why until now. Yes, the hotels were adequate, but not as clean or fun - they were places to rest and no more. Six Flags was a huge disappointment, as we all realized that it's not just the thrill rides that make a theme park. And forget finding the same variety and quality of dining choices!!

Also we have commented that how many places can you go to and be able to do so many different things. You name it and disney has it.Something for everyone!!

It's funny. I saw a thread several days ago comparing the price you pay for Disney compared to the Universal resorts. I have stayed at both. The rooms at the Universal were a little more obulent but that is where it ended. There was trash and cigarette butts scattered around. It just felt dirty compared to WDW.

I love Disney!!!

That is why I also keep going back over and over. Because of how detailed they are in keeping everything looking neat and pretty. You are also right that the buffetts are spotless even though they serve 100's of people everyday.

Also you never see food trucks, etc like you would elsewhere. It truly is a vacation destination. :cool1:  :cheer2: :cheer2:

It's funny that other people feel this way. We were at GF in July and DH and I went to Atlantis in Paradise Island in November. The resort was very nice and we had a good time. But, DH and I kept saying "it's just not Disney". People laugh at me when I try to explain the DIsney magic, but no matter where we go we miss the magic of Disney.

There is only one other place that I vacation that could compare to the cleanliness and hospitality of Disney and that is at Woodloch Pines Resort in the Pocono Mountains of Hawley Pennsylvania. :)

we'll be paying for (6) nights in July the same as what we're paying for (2) of our nights in Aug!
gotta keep that in mind and all will be ok - diff level expect diff service

We were planning our summer vacation and kept throwing different places around. DH finally say, let's go to Disney, you know what you are going to get at Disney and you can't go wrong.
