Disney Split Stays (BEWARE OF MISSING CHARGES)

This last trip was my second split stay. Stayed at three resorts and had dining plan.

After each resort when I checked out I made sure "ZERO OUT MY BALANCE" so I wouldnt have any surprises when I got home. I asked each resort to check my other reservations to make sure something was inadvertently charged to previous resort reservation.

I recieved a final bill at each resort and paid the remainder of what was owed. Even have proof that the bill was zeroed out.

Low and behold Disney strikes again. Imagine my surprise today when my CC was hit for MISC charges from my first nights stay. I was at Disney for a week so you would think that those "MISC CHARGES" would have caught up to me while I was still on property. Lets just say Disney Billing IS NOT MAGICAL.

Also I usually ask for a late checkout and its always up to system if it allows that or not. Was granted later checkout at all three resorts. Cool right? Nope it wasnt apparently the Boardwalk decided to charge me $150 for a late checkout and never told me about it. Had I known that I would not have agreed. Also when I say late checkout were talking NOON instead of 11am.

My advise NEVER DO A SPLIT STAY. The last time I had a similar bad experience but Disney rectified the situation.

That's crazy that they actually charged you for a late check out. We almost always leave within that 11-12 time frame and have never been charged by Disney or any other hotel. Now, we will be worried about the time!

I'm not sure the split stay was the issue but more of BW charging for the late check out, that could have happened with a one resort stay. I didn't even know they charged for it since we usually just check out after breakfast since we drive.

Disney's official policy is

Up to 1PM - No charge
Up to 3PM - 50% of nightly rack rate
After 3PM - Full nightly rack rate

So @Monorail_Man_NJ if you were out of the room by 1PM you have a valid argument to get the charge reversed.

That only shows you paid what had already been charged. Doesn’t mean anything if there are charges still out there.

Regardless if the can charge or not they should have told you at the time you ASKED for it.

On a 7 day stay. Charges from Day 1 should not miraculously appear 4 days after returning home. Everything else showed up, why that?

Could have been an issue with how the credit card payments were processed. I used to work retail and sometimes there was an issue with what our systems said we had in CC payments and what the CC processing company said for a certain day. In those cases it could be a week or so before it was resolved and processed. If a weekend was involved that adds a few more days .

I think the easiest solution to remedy this problem is not charge anything to your room. Just use a CC at venues instead of magic band.

Agreed the only thing we charged were drinks at the pool. I was able to keep track on the MDE app this trip which was a good way to make sure nothing accidently got on our bill that belonged to another guest

If the location where you made the charge had an issue and didn't get it turned over to the resort then there isn't anything the resort can do about it. They can't really charge you for something they didn't know about, can they? Maybe your complaint needs to be with the individual locations being slow to send in the charges, not with the resorts?
Though I do wonder, if the charges are valid (not talking about the late check out fee here, the others only) why are you complaining?
I've gotten a bill after getting home once or twice for whatever reason (glitch with credit card, etc) and as long as the charges were valid, I didn't care, they were mine, I owed them, I paid them. If I paid them while at Disney or once I got home, I'm not sure what difference it made. Or am I missing something?

I know 99% of the time, the charges we run on our bands end up on the account within minutes (you can see them on the app) but sometimes I'm sure there are hiccups where they have delays. It's Disney IT after all

We had some extra charges during our split stay.

#1 - I forgot and used my magic band for the tip on my checkout night. My own fault.

#2 - got a surprise service charge. Talked to our new hotel, they couldn't help. Called, they couldn't help. Took the time to travel back to first hotel and got the charges reversed in person.

My annoyance is that there is NO WAY to know about additional charges after checkout. I also cleared my bills at checkout. I was lucky, I happened to check my app on my checkout evening and the extra charges caught my eye. They don't email you the bill or anything. They just take the money from your CC. I may not have known until I checked my CC bill much later.

A service charge for what? I've never had a service charge at Disney

Exactly. They dont tell you just hit your CC. So you have no way to tell if its valid or not.

When you use a magic band its supposed to go to your resort reservation immediately. Not get put on reservation from another resort after you check out. Not magical. And Disney is the only place that cant seem to figure this out.

It was a $250 extra room cleaning fee. We called and supposedly it was added on by mistake. It was such a pain getting it reversed though.

The annoyance is that if you don't carefully match your charges with your credit card bills, it's easy to overlook an extra charge. Too easy to be tired out after a Disney vacay and not reconcile everything carefully. Especially since I checked my room bill closely before we checked out. My basement flooded the day after I got home and it was quite a while before I could sit down and go through bills, etc.

Whoa! Wow! That's nuts! I'd be ticked off for certain. And yeah, easy to loose in the middle of all those other charges for sure. I don't go over mine with a fine tooth comb but I do scan it for something that jumps out as unrecognizable. So if a location was correct but an amount was off I may not notice but if there was a charge I didn't know I would catch that.
