So I forgot to enter the Vacation a Day contest this morning, and went in to do so at work. Lo and Behold, I get a message that the site has been banned for "Adult Content". I tried going to the Disney.Go site and selecting the link, just in case I had something wrong with my bookmark, and got the same message!

What kind of things are they resolving to do on the website? I know there was a commercial a few years back with a kid talking about WDW (or maybe Disney cruise) and his mom referring to his new baby brother as a "souvenir" from the Disney trip, but, come on! Tone it down a bit people, I want to be able to enter from work sometimes!

I would venture it has nothing to do with the Disney website but your IT dept banning it for some reason You don't work for Universal do you ? ;) sorry couldn't resist

I got a message like that from my IT department years ago when I tried to go to Sesame Street's website to get a picture for my daughter's birthday.

The message included a bit about contacting them to report if a website is blocked that should not be, but I make it a point never to attract the attention of known sadists.

It is probably your IT department blocking the content and has nothing to do with Disney. I can add any site to our firewall and classify it however I want so adding Disney to the "adult" list is possible.

Be careful about trying a proxy at work. Here even attempting to use a proxy means immediate termination. No questions asked and no second chances.

Yeah, the filter at my work blocks the US Army's page for "weapons/violence." I'd guess it's the filter.

Oh, I'm pretty sure that it was just the filters latching onto something fairly innocent and deciding that it was "Too Adult". I am mainly amused, but I don't want to bring it to the attention of the network people. (I am also IT, just not network.)

A few years ago, I found that the online comic strip Questionable Content (a innocuous semi-techy strip about some 20-somethings) was blocked for having "Questionable Content", which I also found amusing. It was unblocked a few days later, as I suppose this will be as well.

I am blocked as well but it appears it has something to do with how the site is set up communicates. Although I cannot get to any lottery web site to check numbers either.

I concur that it's probably the filters set-up by your IT department. You'll have to ask them to unblock the site.

Filters can be funny; I had a colleague who's name was on the list of "banned" words for our companies filters. It took a while to figure out why all of her emails were being bounced back or rejected.

It miht be that the IT dept throws all sites they don't want you hanging out on during work hours into the "Adult Content" bucket.

Just to caution. Different states have different work termination "standards". Here in Georgia, you can be fired just "because". The employer doesn't really have to have a reason for termination. In other states, there are certain things an employer has to go through for termination. And to get even finer, an employer can have an employee handbook or manual that lists the specific termination procedure. One company I worked for (I have no idea of the state requirements) mandated one verbal warning which was a sit down meeting with the supervisor and the employee and a 30 day warning. After that, a written warning provided by the supervisor and manager given to the employee and had to be signed by all three. 30 days after that to improve performance. Then, and only then, could the employee be terminated and that involved the head of HR, the manager, the supervisor and the employee meeting to discuss things. If those procedures were not followed exactly, the employee (if fired), could sue the company for wrongful termination.

I work in a school, nearly the entire internet is blocked!

I'm posting this from a hospital and i have to turn off my wi fi. If I'm on wi fi it blocks this site for being a forum or newsgroup. It also blocks sites like pop it games. I'm not even sure when i joined this network. It was probably a year ago since ive been here.

Oddly a bandwidth hog like face time is ok. :confused3
