Disney shut down Tikiman's Poly Website!!

I am not sure if this is really true, but a friend of mine who does work for Disney (as a consultant, not a direct employee) told me that Disney got a Cease and Desist order and has Tikiman's website shutdown. That's why it's not operational!

Doesn't make sense to me either. The Poly CMs work directly with him on some things.

Besides, someone else posted on another thread that his website "resets" on the 4th of each month if the bandwidth has been exceeded.

Guess we'll see in a couple more days!

Web sites like his MAKE MONEY for Disney; why would they want to shut it down? Similarly, sites like THIS (the DIS) makes money for WDW, I don't think they'd ever shut this site down??

It's all FREE ADVERTISING for them.

Do you know how much more money my family has spent over the last several years SPECIFICALLY due to what I've seen here on the DIS and on Steve's web site? They'd be fools to shut these sites down. LOL

If they shut down his site, why not this one or TGM or mousesavers or .....? I could go on and on.

His site is always down late in the month and early into the next.

Over the summer I met some folks who work at Disney corporate in CA who are BIG fans of the Tikiman site. I cannot imagine Disney shutting down a website that sings the praises of one of its most popular resorts.

On another site Steve said it was bandwidth issues with the site. And that it would be back up and running on Monday. (that was the words from the tikiman himself) I hope so as that is the one reason we stayed at the Poly!

Disney has taken action in the past against sites which may have infringed on their copyrights. They (and nearly all copyright owners) tend to view the "damage" caused by the infringement as worse than the "value" provided by the free advertisement.

Conversely, they can also say, "we have our own advertising people. We don't need you amateurs to help out" and be on their way... but they haven't

I just tried to get on the other day and couldn't. I would be very sorry to hear that Disney made him stop. And a little angry, too. I actually use his site.

I just tried and it says it is down due to high volume of traffic.
I bet it will come back. I love his site and used it to decide on the Poly!!
I upgraded our res to the Poly on the last trip because of what i read on his site!!!
they would be crazy to shut it down!

"Aloha everyone,

Yeah my site had too much traffic this month. It resets on the 4th of every month. I had done a few increases of the bandwidth last year but now I just have to work on reducing the size of the pages so they don't use so much bandwidth. I really can't upgrade anymore or my wife will kick me out of the house. It already cost me $700 a year. Some people donate to my paypal donation button and that helps. I started to reduce the size of the files on each page but I only got through a few of the high traffic pages. It helped for a while but traffic is up again. I think ever since my link went on Wikipidia but at least people are finding the site. Sorry it is down. It will be back up next Monday.

That's good to hear that it just exceeded the bandwidth limit and not being taken down legally. I have been going there for years and not only is it one of my favorite sites, it allowed me to meet some great people this summer. I think it would be a great loss if Steve ever shuts down his site.

I think his sight has been down for awhile...I was staying at the Poly in November and I tried several times back in October to get on and couldn't. I think people just didn't realize it...in my opinion, it was shut down.
