Thanks for reading...

I usually collect Disney dolls (11.5"), but I have a special opportunity to buy 20-year old limited edition colorful serigraphs (of the theatrical posters) of "Gulliver Mickey," "Touchdown Mickey," "Ye Olden Days," "Sea Scouts" and "Three Little Pigs" from a reputable art gallery for ~$200 each. Each piece is 29x34" (great for a wall), and each has a heavy black frame and has been professionally mounted.

What would you do? Is it worth the price?

Need to know soon...
Thanks.

Serigraphs and Sericels are two very different things.

Basically a serigraph is a form of print similar to a lithograh.

A sericel is usually a character painted on the back of a sheet of clear plastic using a mechanical process. Some sericels which come framed may have a print background.

The thing to consider is what are you willing to pay for something you want to put on display in your house for you (and others) to look at. As long as you are not looking at an item as an investment it is worth whatever you are willing to pay.

I have no idea how much the serigraph posters are worth, but at the size you mentioned, just the frame and mounting is worth a major portion of that "$200. each", especially done professionally.

Thanks for your help. I ultimately visited the gallery this afternoon and purchased the framed "Ye Olden Days" serigraph. It's absolutely gorgeous and large– a great size for a blank wall. I don't know anyone who won't smile at a picture of Princess Minnie being romanced by Minstrel Mickey, including me.

I'm glad I got over the price tag! The cartoon is adorable, and there's no question we'll be enjoying this artwork for years to come.

I agree flyinglizard: the frame and the quality of this mounting alone would have been pricey. I have other lower-quality posters rolled up in a corner; I'm so happy that we don't need to deal with framing this particularly special piece. :lovestruc
