Disney Seniors

At this point there is not a board that is designed specifically for seniors.

You are welcome to start a thread aimed at seniors, on a board that currently exists.

What is it you would like to discuss and I can help suggest a board to discuss your questions?

As a senior myself, I’d like a board specific for issues we might have. I can think of a few, from my own experience:

1) I’m 75, and have some arthritis in my back. Oddly, while walking 10+miles a day is tiring, it doesn’t affect my spine as much as simply standing in a line for an hour. What do people who have issues standing in line do? There aren’t enough occasional rest spots when in ques.
2) Finding quiet spots where one can take a load off the feet.
3) Packing for a parks day that differs from what a younger person/family may need: meds, aspirin, taking a book along to read in your quiet spot for a break.
4) For people with circulation issues, how do you navigate being able to put your feet up without getting looks for either “hogging” a space or putting shoes on chairs where people may sit?
5) Taking mid-day breaks aren’t only for the young; it can help to recoup energy and get out of the hottest hours of the Florida weather

Anywho, I don’t know that the above couldn’t be asked in the forums that are already there, but it might feel more comfortable for some of us olders to have our own space?

Perhaps think of using a rollator. Always have a chair and takes some pressure off your back.

You are kind thinking of the shoes on benches issue, but remember many people already use the bench seats in rides as a step to get out. If I really needed to get my feet up for a few mins, I'd put my feet up but always be aware of someone looking for a seat.

Was just thinking that as we age, our needs change somewhat. Whether it is with travel, accommodations, health issues, restaurants or getting around.

I'm on the young side of old - just turned 50 this summer. But my body is letting me know in subtle ways that I may eventually need to do the parks differently as I age. Giving up Disney is not an option - ever! :goodvibes I think a section for Seniors is a great idea!

Thank you. I would agree with @lanejudy and recommend you post in the Disney for Adults and Solo Travellers forum. Feel free to place ‘Seniors’ in the title of your threads.

This is a location where you could post as I’m not sure there is enough demand for a completely different forum to discuss your valid topics.

I just turned 55 and do t count myself as a senior yet but like disdreamer2 pointed out, the parks do become more challenging and kudos to all those 70+ year olds still enjoying the parks!!!! My challenge is keeping up with the kids/grandkids. I have to physically prepare myself for a trip now. I did pretty well last trip but the one before my knee hurt so bad after day 1. Gone are the days of carefree ideas of show up early and go all day!! We take it slower now when it’s just me and DH and take more breaks which isn’t a bad thing.

I vote for such a board also! Just turned 65, but still working full-time. Holding off on Medicare and SS right now, but looking over Medicare plans. Right now it does not make sense for me as it would be more per month then my current company plan.

Love going to the parks and visit three times per year. I have no mobility issues and generally do 16K steps per day when there, which is way more then I do at home.
