Its a complete waste of time now. Get rid of it Disney!

99% of the guards don't even check the contents, just a quick glance or shine with the torch and your on your way.

Frankly I'd rather see it either stopped or made a true check with an x-ray machine and metal detectors. What they've got now is an illusion of security and IMHO rather insulting to the intelligence of park goers.

IMHO if terrorists are going to attack WDW, they are going to do it on a much grander scale than anything that the cursory "bag search" will ever pick up.

I agree with Anne

They could be checking for weapons or anything that may look suspecious. They should use a metal detector as well though.

The check is enough to keep somebody from being in the type of backpack bomb that killed people at the Atlanta Olympics. It keep people from being in something "big" that would be a problem.

If you have bags you get them checked, if not you get to go by. What about hiding things on the person?? Guns, knives and such???? I agree either all out or not at all.

At Fenway they check the bags, but I don't think it is for security reasons. I think they are looking for:

1. Alcohol
2. Food
3. Beach Balls

We all know how dangerous deflated beach balls can be in a sports arena. :lmao:

No it doesn't. It corrals many hundreds of people in one small confined space making the ideal conditions for a backpack bomb laced with nails and others flying paraphenalia. Nobody said 'it' has to happen on Main Street to have an impact.

It's a waste and should be done away with.

A little OT, but I was at a festival style rock concert a couple months ago. Lots of beach balls, lots of happy people. Towards the end of the night the security guys started to not toss the balls that landed behind the barricade back, so the crowd retaliated by throwing things that were actully dangerous. People got hurt. Not saying that tossing things that hurt people was a good thing, but the guards set it off by instituting a stupid policy. It was cool all day, then all of a sudden became an issue at 8:30 pm? :confused3

It's not very thorough at all, so I say do away with it..

Short of a decent size bomb, there's nothing dangerous you can put in a bag, even a small fanny pack, that you can't put in your pocket. A well trained (as in professional) security agent can spot a concealed weapon on most anyone, but an unarmed security guard isn't likely to confront somebody that appears armed.

We rarely carry even a camera at WDW these days, but often have a friend who carries a purse or something similar. Depending on how crowded it is, we may have to wait ten or fifteen minutes for them to get through the security check.

I thiink if a true terrorist wanted to do something at WDW it would be on a scale much larger and not something that could be stopped by a simple bag check.

Yes, yes, YES!!!! It is THE most annoying thing at WDW.

I hate it.

I think it is just an illusion of some type of security, I don't think it really does any good. The only thing I've seen taken by security from a bag and not allowed in was some of those little single serving bottles of liquor someone was trying to take into Epcot to make their own drinks. :rotfl:

Don't have a problem with it. We have never been delayed by more than a couple of minutes anyway. If Disney's risk assessment shows it to be important and they can mitigate some of their public liability insurance costs this way then who are we to moan?

ford family

While I agree that they slow things down, and some of the CMs don't do it right, and the crowd at the entrance would be a great place for a backpack bomb..... my DH used to work doing bagchecks so I know some of the things that have been found.

Why does the cop on vacation need his gun at MK???? And why does the family need a huge kitchen knife to slice bread to make their own sandwiches??

And why does a family need a cooler full of vodka..... okay, so I know the answer to that one! ;)

Leave the guns and knives at home and then we won't need bagchecks.

The check points are a joke. Put your weapons in your pockets. They don't check those. Nor do they check what's in front of them. They PRETEND to check. They don't have the bags open long enough to check. It's just a touch of the bag, and you're in.

True! Very true!

We're the people they are inconveniencing. And we don't really give a hoot about why they've chosen to inconvenience us.

The thrill of entering the park has been dampened. Heck, it is now a chore. Lines at bag check. Lines at turnstyles. Fingerprint machines. Ugh.

::yes::

Now there's an idea! :ssst: Just replace your water bottles with gin, tonic, vodka, bacardi...then your all set for World Showcase!!! :thumbsup2 :tiptoe: ;)

When I was in Disney a year ago, I saw at least two people have alcohol taken away from them. Can you imagine how much of that happens and if they do away with the bag check, how much WILL get in and think of the drunk people that will ruin a magical time!

Trust me, I am NO prude, but I would not want to deal with a drunk mother or father or even young adults who shouldn't be drinking in the first place!!

Just my 2 cents
