Disney Sea - HELP!!!

Discopper gave you a lot of great tips. I have a bit more to add.

I can't answer for the crowds in May. You may want to visit the message board for Tokyo Disney Resort on the Micechat web site and pose this question.

The weather in Tokyo in May is generally in the 70's during the day, 60's at night. Your best bet is to check the weather forecast the day before you leave to know what to pack, but at least bring a jacket or sweater with you as it can feel cooler than normal at the parks at night because you get the wind blowing off Tokyo Bay.

I suggest getting a good general guidebook for Japan (we used the Frommers book) to get an idea of different things to do, and places to visit, and how to get around. Another amazing research is the web site Japan-Guide.com. It's hard to suggest things without knowing your hobbies, likes and dislikes. I will make one suggestion, though - if you go into the city and want a good view of the city, go to the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building in Shinjuku. They have observatories in both the north and south towers on the 45th floor, and it is FREE. Neat views.

I don't recall seeing menus for the restaurants at Tokyo Disney Resort anywhere on the web. But, I can assure you that there are quite a variety of choices there, and there's a decent amount of stuff that's meat-free. DisneySea has quite a few Italian restaurants, too...lots of pasta choices. There are a ton of snacks, too...the flavored popcorn is amazing...so are the churros.

Outside of Disney, you will find some chain restaurants like McDonalds, plus Japanese chain restaurants, that serve beef entrees. There is a huge focus on seafood and chicken, though. So, be open to some of the tofu entrees they serve as well. We had some and they were delicious.

Another suggestion - on Disney property, at Ikspiari, there is a Hawaiian burger chain restaurant called Kua 'Aina. Huge beef burgers there with yummy fries, if you're craving something American.

There is a Hilton on Disney property which gets great reviews. We stayed at the Sheraton, which was cheaper and closer to the monorail station. But, if you have points, then go with the Hilton. I don't believe there is a Marriott on property. If you stay in central Tokyo, plan on anywhere from 15 minutes to an hour to travel to Disney, depending on which neighborhood you stay in.

We just brought an extra suitcase for our souvenirs. It was a pain to drag around with us everywhere, but it was cheaper than shipping our stuff home(which is very expensive). We checked in 2 bags on the way over, and 3 bags on the way home - our airline allowed 2 bags each for free, so it cost us nothing.

some other disers pointed me to this thread and I just finished reading through it and taking lots of notes.

I am just in the beginning stages of planning a trip to Tokyo next May 2010. We are thinking of doing Disney for 4 days. I know to avoid Golden Week during the 1st weeks of May. I have been to WDW 9 times and Disneyland 8 times so this will be our first trip to a Disney Park outside the US. Is this a good time to go when crowds will be lower? We are pretty open as to when we can travel. What about weather?

What other things are must do's in Japan? We are planning on a 2 week trip. It will be myself and my husband no kids.

Also I am a picky eater and the only meat I eat is beef. Is there a website where I can find menus to the restaurants at Tokyo Disney? or what are the recommended restaurants to eat at? I figure outside of disney I will be able to find the normal chain restaurants.

We have reward points to stay at either a Hilton or Marriott haven't looked to see yet which one is closer or recommended so any help there would be appreciated too.

Also one of our favorite things to do at WDW is to go around looking at the other hotels. Is it easy to do that as well at Tokyo Disney to visit the 3 Disney hotels? Also what about shipping items home? or would we be better off just to bring an extra suitcase?

I am sure I will have more questions as I plan more LOL

My husband and I took a lot of photos of the menus at both Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea. I'll post some examples of menu items that are either beef, or vegetarian. This is by no means a comprehensive list of restaurants or menu items. It's just to give you an idea.

Tokyo Disneyland

Queen of Hearts Banquet Hall
Appetizers: Cream of Corn Soup or Tossed Green Salad with Penne or Caesar Salad
Entrees: Flank Steak with Gravy or Heart-Shaped Meat Patty with Tomato Brown Sauce

Cafe Orleans
They serve crepes with pudding or fruit in them.

Blue Bayou Restaurant
Entree: Grilled Beef Tenderloin on White Sorghum Pilaf topped with Fried Onion Ring with Tarragon Sauce
They also have soups and salads for appetizers.
They also have a chef's special for about $30 that is served with soup, dessert and a drink: Grilled Sirloin with Whole Grain Mustard Sauce. I'm sure the special changes from time to time.

Pecos Bill
Serves a meat pie (snack) which is pretty good...their maple churro is awesome.

Restaurant Hokusai
Entree: Sirloin Don - sirloin steak on rice, served with miso soup and pickled vegetables (pickled veggies taste much better than it sounds).

Plaza Restaurant
Appetizers: Cream of Corn Soup or French Fries or Mixed Salad
Entree: Beef and Vegetables over Rice

Tokyo DisneySea

New York Deli
Entree: Grilled Reuben Sandwich
Side Dishes: Macaroni Salad or French Fries or Cole Slaw

Vulcania Restaurant
Entrees: Soy-Simmered Beef over Rice or Stir-Fried Beef and Green Peppers

Sailing Day Buffet
About $30 for all-you-can-eat buffet - not sure what's on the menu.

S.S. Columbia Dining Room
Entrees: Japanese Beef Fillet with Seasonal Vegetables or Carbonnade of Beef with Mashed Potatoes and Seasonal Vegetables or Sirloin Steak with Seasonal Vegetables and choice of sauce
They also have house and caesar salads as side items.

Cape Cod Cook-Off
Serves hamburgers and cheeseburgers.

Horizon Bay
Entree: Braised Beef with Pasta and Seasonal Vegetables

Miguel's El Dorado Cantina
Entree: Soft Tacos

Ristorante di Cannaletto
Entrees: Grilled Sirloin or Margherita Pizza

Cafe Portofino
Appetizer: Cream of Vegetable Soup
Entree: Stewed Beef

Okay, please note that these were some of the menu items while we were there last month - there is no guarantee the menus will stay the same, but you can see that there are beef options all over the parks, as well as salads and soups. The snacks are really good, too. One day at TDL and one day at TDS we didn't even eat lunch, we just tried all the snacks during the day, and then ate a nice dinner.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

wow thanks for the responses and tips!! That really helps!

The luggage transportation from hotel to hotel sounds like something we would definitely do as I don't even like to have a carryons for the plane LOL

Thanks for all the restaurant selections that makes me feel more at ease knowing that there will be plenty of options.

Off to barnes and noble to check out the Japan travel books.
