I hope this is the right place to post :confused3. We have to go to Orlando in Feb. For Work. We know it is the same week as presidents day weekend. We want to stay at a Disney Resort like we always do when we take family trips to Disney. We'd like to know If anyone has stayed at a Disney Resort and had to go to the Orange County Convention Center. What Disney Resort is the resort that is near the Convention Center. We will be 3 days at the Convention, and the rest spent at disney. Making it both a work/family trip rolled into one. It looks like it will only maybe take us possibly around 20mins. from Disney to the Convention Center.
Thank you in Advance. :goodvibes

It really depends on traffic. I used to work near the Convention Center and stop by the Contemporary for dinner on my way home from work. It took me 30 minutes most of the time. So I would allow at least 30 minutes.

The closest resort would be SSR, but the PO resorts are easy to get to/from as well, as would OKW. The most difficult resorts, from a commuting standpoint, would be the ones close MK and AK, as they are farthest away from the convention center.

I agree on the time. I was staying at the Rosen Hotel across the street from the Orange County Convention Center and it took me about 30 minutes each way. When I got finished with my meetings, I'd drive over to WDW.

I would take International Drive to 536 (World Center Drive) which becomes Epcot Center Drive. Reverse is the same. Leaving Epcot, head towards the airport and turn left on International Drive. Some traffic, but usually not hard to manage at all.

Caribbean Beach or Pop Century might not be too bad.

And the new Art of Animation would be very convenient as it is near Pop Century, also very convenient to I 4.

I'm curious about this, too. My business will be working at the Convention Center from August thru October. I would love to have everyone stay at a Disney Resort as opposed to an overpriced chain hotel. Especially if the drive is only 30 minutes!

Thank you all this is very helpful I guess I will have to wait until Aug to book.

My family went once to the CBR and while we all did WDW for a week, one family member who had a 3 day convention went back and forth from the CBR to the Convention Center. She had no problems other than some heavy traffic here and there and she and all of us had a wonderful trip.

Would it be better to rent a car to go between dis and the occc or take a cab? My wife and i will be attending the Teched conference in June and will be spending a few extra days after the convention to make the best use of not haveing the kids. Would we be better off staying close to the convention center of close to Disney for the duration? I hope to make the park after the meeting are over as well. From what I can tell MS has the whole center booked.

We are looking at hotel's close to the convention as well to many options.

If you're going to be staying on Disney property anyways, I wouldn't fret about the closest hotel but rather focus on where you prefer to stay regardless. From the closest resort, it's typically a 20 minute drive to OCCC. If you're most comfortable at a monorail resort, tacking on an additional 10 minutes to the drive isn't that big a deal (coming from an Angeleno).

I would definitely rent a car in this situation; :drive: they are usually pretty cheap in Florida. You might even be able to break even compared to cab fare back and forth within the first day.

Actually, most of my WDW stays have been because of conventions, many of which have been held at or near OCCC. I almost always stay at the Swan/Dolphin. Even if not visiting the parks, I feel the Boardwalk area is among Orlando's best places to unwind and relax after being stuck in a tradeshow booth for 10+ hours. :headache:

Interesting comment. I find Orlando's hospitality industry to be among the country's most competitive outside of WDW. Where else can you routinely find a Waldorf-Astoria for around $170? It can often be difficult to get a Disney moderate for that price.

When traveling to Central Florida on business, I too prefer to stay on Disney property, but it can be hard to justify financially when comparable upscale properties offsite offer such better rates. In fact, if the Swan and Dolphin didn't usually offer so many great specials, I don't think I could stay onsite when visiting for business myself.

I wish some of the hotels would offer shuttle service between the two. It sure would help in making the decision as to where to stay. is there a cost to park at the OCC? Does anyone know how much? that may make a different is how we plan. We may stay the first part at one hotel close to the OCC then move the last three to Disney.

I didn't even ask. I guess we would have to call down their.
