anybody ever stayed at a disney resort the night before the cruise and if so would it be possible to get just the disney transfers from the port to the airport if we were to just rent a car from the airport to the resort. would it be cheaper to do it this way? has anybody stayed at the pop century resort?

We are staying at POFQ the night before our cruise. We are going to rent a car at the airport and keep it until we return it after the cruise. I don't like dealing with shuttles, etc. It seems easier to me to just rent the car for the entire trip.

I just do shuttles...One leg, two legs, mix 'n match...port to resort, resort to port...Can't tell you the best way to work in an auto rental...
I did stay at the POP in May for a few days...Loved it! Only basic food available but not bad. Lots of packaged salads, fruit, snacks. Some hot meal stuff, too. Pools were great. Happy people everywhere...Caracature artist in lobby did a funny drawing of Cash riding a roller coaster. The grounds were great for evening walks. Bus transport excellent, as usual. Don't leave anything behind...Mousekeeping vicious about tossing stuff out.....

Yes and yes!

We just got back from the 9/18 Magic and we spent two nights as Pop Century before the cruise. We used Happy limo from MCO to PC and PC to the Pier. They were great. We purchased DCL transfers for the pier to MCO leg. They were $25.00 per person.

As for Pop Century it was ok. I couldn't stay there for a week though - too noisy for my taste. We'd stayed at the Polynisian, Port Orleans-Riverside and the All Star Movie's before. We figured for two nights why go to the expense of the moderate or deluxe resort since we'd be taken good care of on the ship. We had a "preferred" room; however, that meant we were by the pool and since it's open til midnight, it was a noisy location. I would ask not to have a pool view if we ever went back. I was told we'd be closer to the food court and buses and we weren't so i guess it's either view or close. The food court was nuts 24/7. Always extremely noisy and jam packed with people and wall to wall kids. I am not trying to be negative, some people like this, it's not my preference.

When we go again next year, we'll probably stay at a moderate resort. Again, there's nothing wrong with the value resorts, we just prefer a little less noise and crowds. To us, it's worth the extra money.

The major advantage to doing a rental car is that you control the time of your arrival at the pier. We have always been there around 1030-11am and gotten on the ship by noon. I prefer that because it gives you time to explore plus the pools are empty in the afternoon. A lot of people go to parks in the morning and then take the shuttle in the afternoon. It depends on your preferences.

Either way ~ Enjoy your cruise! :p

In January we came out the day before our DCL cruise and took a taxi to the Pop Century from the airport. The hotel was average room-wise, but nice and new and clean. Plus we didn't care since we were just there for one night and just needed a place to sleep - about 10 minutes after check in we were on our way to the Magic Kingdom till closing time! The next morning Pop Century shuttled us over to the Swan (be sure to pre-arrange this). We then boarded the DCL bus to the ship. We weren't that concerned about getting to the boat early so this worked for us. After the cruise we then took the DCL bus straight to the airport. All of this was planned ahead - except for the taxi to Pop which we found easily at the airport.

We are staying at WDW the night before our cruise in Feb and got a good rental car rate of 26.00 from Avis. We plan to turn it in at the port. Much cheaper than any other transportation out there plus we have the flexibility to go anywhere. Especially if you forgot to pack a last minute item and have to make a run to Wal-Mart or a drug store.
