Disney Resort Pricing through the ROOF!

Hi!

I understand that Disney is and will be expensive but this is just way over the top in my opinion. This is more than the Four Seasons or Ritz Carlton.
It is, and they continue to raise prices. Disney deluxe are not at the same level as most Four Seasons or Ritz Carltons, at least imo, but you are paying for being in the Disney bubble, convenience, theming, and benefits. We love deluxe at Disney, but only when we find a good deal (a "good" deal will differ from one person to the next). Your quote does not seem like a good deal, at least to me.

Have you tried a TA who might be able to get a discount, or looked for last minute specials through DVC Rentals, which are part of the timeshare rooms? Chances might be slim, but it is worth a shot for a better rate. Would you consider a mod or an offsite property?

Hi Diser's!

Just called Disney asking for 4 nights =September 30th check out October 4th - at the following Resorts:

Polynesian - $2300 - $3200 (standard and lake view pricing)
AKL - $1468 - Standard
Wilderness Lodge - $1700 Standard
Copper Creek Studio $1800
Copper Creek 1 BR $2800.

I was shocked! Is it just me or do you think it is way over priced? I also thought that September 30 was in a lower season. I would hate to see what the Christmas season pricing is.

Thoughts?

Thanks Everyone!! :)

It's no doubt expensive, but as for "overpriced," I guess it depends on what it means to you.

For the Walt Disney Company, "overpriced" applies only when demand drops; the rooms will be overpriced only when people are unwilling to pay that amount and occupancy drops.

Given occupancy rates, I doubt that's the case.

Exactly. If you can go 1 month earlier the rates for AP rooms at the deluxe resorts are running about $300-$350 a night. Now I realize that doesn't work for everyone but early Sept rates are incredibly low.
Rates in October aren't bad BUT availability is horrible. And due to quirks in their pricing structure it will return Rack rates and still show a Promo name if only 1 out of the entire range is promo pricing. So you can have 5 nights, 4 nights rack rate, 1 night promo rate and still have "Enchanted Package" show on the title. But you won't know this if you don't do the pricing online for yourself. You have to get to the final payment page and open up the detail to see the night by night breakdown (you do this before you process the final check out). That way, if you don't like what you see, you can go back and search some more. This is why I never, ever call. I always do it myself.

Thank you so much for your detailed information! Points are well taken! I’ll do my homework.

Hi!

We have a villa 8 miles from Disney which is very nice but we wanted to stay on property. I will call a TA also and do so research. Thank you!

Must ask.... what are you trying to BOOK? This will help everyone, as we have no idea if you are looking for "Sleeps 2", or " Sleeps 8"?

OFTEN - the very best way to deal with a LARGE party is to rent DVC points. We never rent our points... but many others DO. Consider this option, if it works for you?

All personal opinion - I'm not necessarily right, no one else is necessarily wrong.

Hey there!

Just 2 in the room! The CM was somewhat annoying too! Just too silly, not really business oriented. The way she was conveying the information was a bit misleading when she was stating it was discounted. Lessons learned believe me.

I went to David’s DVC online and saw white a few properties that were gorgeous! The Grand Floridian 3 bedroom villa is drop dead gorgeous!

There are specific TAs you would need to go through.

You have to click on the discounts tab, then specials. They have discounted points and confirmed reservations (you have to be super flexible for the confirmed reservations). When we booked in July, I saw a special--150 points for only $10/point. The only thing available for our dates in August was SSR, 1 bedroom. We ended up booking offsite for less than half that because we are saving for Europe, but what a deal. We have worked with Terra, who was awesome and patient. Right now I see 335 points for $14/point, used by Dec. 1st. The specials go fast, and it depends on availability, but it might be worth it to submit a request. Good luck and enjoy your trip!

Good to know! Did you deal with Terra at David’s DVC? Thanks for the great information too!

No, this was through DVC Rental Store. We booked AKL for our 2017 stay with her, and contacted her about our trip for next month. I have heard good things about David's but we have never used them.

Hey Brunette!

Your post made me curious because my favorite Animal Kingdom Lodge doesn't look too bad. The lowest price is $435 a night on Expedia so you did well. The others don't look so good.

Sorry, but people here are giving you bad information -- those are not rack rates, those are discounted rates under the Enchanting Escape special offer (the CM you spoke to was telling the truth). I searched your dates and there is extremely limited availability those dates. Rack rate for an AKL standard room those dates is $435. The Poly and Wilderness Lodge are now both showing as sold out for those dates, but rack rate at a standard view that week at the Poly ranges between $585 and $635. Food & Wine is very popular, and people who book on Sept. 29 or earlier are eligible for free dining which is a very popular promotion, and your are right before columbus day weekend, all of which adds up to higher demand.

Disney is a major tourist destination, and from that perspective the prices are not that surprising. If I want a hotel room at a high-end hotel in New York City, it is around $700 a night. Your highest price was $575 at the second most expensive hotel on the disney property (the Poly), and your lowest was $367 a night at an extremely nice deluxe resort (AKL--which is a good rate, FYI -- I paid over $400 a night in April). Disney also has moderate and value options in the $200 a night range, but I don't think you are going to do a ton better than those rates for a deluxe.

September prices are better but I have always avoided the heart of the hurricane season, late august through the end of September. Even early October can be tricky, we had to cut short our early October Florida panhandle beach trip last year by a day due to a strong tropical storm. Pain in the neck and we had trouble returning home too.

September rates a a real bargain, I originally booked AKL Club September 3-7 at $427 per night but the opted to change to the end of October mainly due to the Hurricane season and the price jumped to $504 for the same room. Both of these were under discounted promos.
I would definitely check online yourself and Dave is right the discounts are only for Sunday’s thru Thursday nights Friday and Saturday nights are not discounted and are Much much costlier!

Yes. I think it's way overpriced. o_O

Oh yiou are right, not the Ritz. However it is Disney and you were pricing the Deluxe resorts, so the price was right, in a Disney way.

I know! I saw the rates adn thought they were discounted too!

Brunette- plan your budget first, and then look online to see what is openin that price range. Be prepared for the rates though, and knwo that Disney is generally more money lately than many other vacation destinations. I have an Aruba trip that is way less than our December Disney trip and includes concierge level, and is truly all inclusive.

Compared to other resorts/hotels in the area, yes, Disney resorts are EXTREMELY overpriced.

However, economically, if they are selling out at those prices then they are not overpriced. As long as some fool is will to pay 2-3x more than offsite, then Disney will continue the insanity.

Hey, I resemble that remark...:upsidedow
