Can someone give me an idea of how many points it costs to stay at other regular (non Dvc) resorts in Disney? How about Disneyland and Cruiesline? I guess to put it more simply, What are the point rates for the other DIsney collection vacations?

THANKS

It varies by resort and also varies each year. Since it is an out of DVC system trade, those values must be re-negotiated each year. It generally takes many more points to use out of system rooms than DVC rooms. For example, this year Grand Floridian will be anywhere from 40 to 126 points a night depending on view, season, and day of the week. You can see why it isn't a good value to use DVC points for what is essentially a smaller accommodation than DVC. If you feel you would mostly be wanting to stay in non-DVC resorts, then DVC would not be a good value for you.

Frankly, I find staying at non-DVC resorts to be a step down from having my own kitchen, jacuzzi, washer and dryer etc and a king sized bed. Just doesn't compare with a regular hotel room in my book.

thanks

I dont plan to stay very often in non DVC resorts, but I havent tried anything besides the value resorts, so im tempted to try some others.

We like the Deluxe resort, unlike Diane I perfer them to my DVC units (I don't need a kitchen and don't use the jacuzzi - the thing I really like about DVC that is too expensive to get with a Deluxe is the kids sleeping in a second bedroom). However, we purchased a smaller amount of points, and we get our Deluxe visits by tacking on an extra Saturday night and paying cash - and I think that once the kids grow up, maybe a few long weekends. Saves the expensive weekend points, gets us an extra day at WDW and doesn't really cost more because of the weekend night.

I can understand that sentiment, Crisi, but I have a Jacuzzi and king bed at home, and I hate giving those up on vacation.

We have a jacuzzi at home too - possibly the reason I don't need it on vacation (I like hottubs on vacation), the king bed we got rid of because I wasn't able to find my husband when we were sleeping in the same bed....plus the king bed was an invitation for two kids to join us - the queen means we fit without kids - and I feel like I'm actually sleeping next to my husband. But I understand your sentiment as well. If we were used to sleeping in a king - it would be hard to downsize - and if I liked taking daily baths - hotel bathtubs in general aren't good - but the jacuzzi is. (The OKW jacuzzi you know is also much bigger than the BWV jacuzzi we get - I think if the tub is a really important feature, its one of the OKW benefits that gets overlooked).

I will say that with kids we use the kitchen and washer and dryer much more than we thought we would.
