I wonder what tourist attractions (whether natural scenery, wildlife, beaches etc, or historic landmarks, manmade sights, buidlings, plantations etc) etc are there to see in Hilton Head, Savannah, Charlotte, and other nearby locations?

Charleston is about a 2 hour drive and Savannah about 1. In Charleston and Savannah there is a lot of historical things to see. In either city you can take walking tours. You have Ft Sumter in Charleston if you recall your Civil War history. There's also the SC Aquarium in Charleston. In both cities your can take boat cruises

We went to Savannah for a day and had a blast! All the old and historic houses and cemetaries were very interesting. We took Ron's movie tour as well as a Ghost tour in the vening. Leopold's Ice Cream shop is not to be missed. We walked a LOT but really enjoyed it and hope to get back for a long weekend. If you plan to go, I recommend renting the movie Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil before you go.

Beaufort, SC is about an hour or less away. Small, historic southern town, with a visitor center, bus or walking tours. Beautiful and very old and interesting. The movie, Prince of Tides, was filmed there. It is the home of author Pat Conroy.

there are many places to visit within a couple hours of HH...being from the area, i have spent time in both Savannah and Charleston. If you love history, then you'll have a great time...even if you don't both cities are beautiful.

also, i forgot to mention that there are plantions in charleston....by the way my childrens names are charleston and Savannah....no kidding!

Just off the coast of Savannah is Tybee Island where Fort Pulaski is located. It was built and used before the Civil War (can't remember the year) and has an interesting history. I am not a big war history fan (DH and DD17 is), but enjoyed the Fort just the same.

It is was built in the shape of a pentagon and is where the design for the Pentagon in DC originated.

Savannah has beautiful homes that you can take tours through as well. One of them being Juliette Gordon Low, founder of Girl Scouts in America. Gorgeous home. There are trolley tours that take you by the historic houses and you can jump on and off these to see a house you are interested in.

There are "ghost" tours of the cemeteries in evening. The gridwork design of the older section of Savannah is based on a Roman street design and is very beautiful with its multitude of boulevards and parks.

My DH loves to sit on the pier and watch the big ships come into the harbor.

Also, I think that there is some antique shops and other sightseeing that can be done further North in Charleston, SC. We didn't make it there, but saw the brochures. ::MickeyMo ::MickeyMo

AJ's restuarant at the south end of Tybee Island has been highly recommended by locals (great place to watch the sunset) but we didn't make it when we went.

Thank you, for the information.

What about sights and attractions (besides resort pools, beaches, golf courses) in Hilton Head, and the surrounding areas?
