Disney reimburses unsuspecting customer

I discuss Guest Recovery in the first message in this thread:

Tally of Operations Designed or Changed Possibly Due to Abuse

That thread is somewhat relevant to this one. You may want to check it out.

That's a very interesting thread bicker, thank you for posting.

It reminds me of another one (slightly) that we had here recently. Which CS locations allow you to use Child DDP credits for an adult meal. A kind Dis'er is going next week and offered to share her results. I cautioned against it, because I can see information like this, provided for 100,000 Dis'ers leading to another closing of another loophole. (Not to mention her results will likely not be be the same for another Dis'er restaurant to restaurant - Customers will get upset and Disney will close another loophole.)

Yup, posting this was the worst thing she could do. Now others will expect it. Disney tries to make some magic from time to time, but when people spread such stories around, others start demanding it, thus ruining it for everyone.
I realize the OP is new to the DIS, but apparently is an experienced Disney visitor:

This experience, combined with just plain common sense, would indicate that Disney went above what they should be expected to do in this situation, by reimbursing anything.

It's comparable to locating a CVS $25 prescription coupon online on December 31, intending to use it January 1, then complaining because it expired the day you found/printed it.

I believe Disney will still spread the magic when the deem it necessary. There are always those that want to abuse the system. I think OPs family member truly just slipped through the cracks. As incredulous as this sounds to some....it happens. There are areas that are gray. I give the CMs at Dis credit for being savvy enough to make the correct call in most circumstances.

Yes, I would hope someone with that much WDW experience would help their sibling so they wouldn't be "totally taken by surprise":

My mother and my brother recently went to WDW, two different trips. I tried and tried to tell them about ADRs, especially at Le Cellier and CRT. They wouldn't listen and couldn't believe it when they couldn' t walk up and get a reservation. Some people just don't listen.:confused3 I really felt sorry for my 10 year old niece....this was her first trip to WDW. They missed a lot.

Cast members are good, but they're not mind-readers. They cannot magically know which guests are telling the truth and which guests are fabricating.

As has been pointed out 'Several' times, they were caught unaware during the changeover. The brother printed out the info on the 31st. They used due dilligence in planning and were still caught off-guard. Sheesh, not everyone is perfect. Cut this family a break, you dont have to defend 'Everything' that the disney corp does, they are capable of making a mistake themselves you know!

Bicker, Of course, some will get by, but I think for the most part people are honest. Not everybody is looking for an angle or trying to pull a scam. I guess, motherhood trained me pretty well for truth detecting. I can usually smell a lie a mile away.

I'm sure your children enjoy the fact you think so. :)

I'm very good at detecting when my kids lie---their lips are moving.

(I'm here all week. Don't forget to tip your waitress!)

As has been pointed out several times, the 2008 Dining Plan was not sold to anyone until after the 2008 brochure was posted on the Disney website. If you download something that says "2007 Magic Your Way Package Plus Dining" at the top, then you shouldn't go online (or have someone else go online) and complain about it not applying to 2008. Or if you do, you should expect to be called-out on it.

Maybe I should check my receipt. I booked my July 2008 with DDP vacation in October 2007. I may have been charged $1 too much for my DDP. Multiply that times 4 people and 13 days- thats a good bottle of wine for me;) Seriously, when I booked my package in Oct 07, no one mentioned the 08 changes to the dining plan.

Again, the WRONG information was still on their website in 2008 and went through a couple of corrections before it wasnt so mis-leading. Why some must keep toting the company line and not just accepting that this was mis-handled and that 'some' portion of the guests were caught off-guard is so hard to accept?

But the right information was ALSO on Disney's website, . The 2006 MYW Dining information was available at disneyworld.com through a large part of 2007.
Right now, information on both the 2007 and 2008 plans is available.

It is reasonable to expect that anybody seeking information online would ascertain that the information applies to, in this case, their travel dates.

Because I was here. I know, to the day, when the 2008 brochure was posted. I disagree with what you wrote. So I posted that. It has nothing to do with "accepting". It has to do with disagreeing. I wish people would stop making excuses for folks who were, as far as I'm concerned, too careless to learn about what they're buying before they buy it. This is not just a Disney thing -- I see it everywhere.

Especially since the year is clearly posted at the top of each brochure.

What you think is toting the company line is just a low tolerance for idiots in my case, but I just speak for myself. It is always someone else's fault. There was information for both the 2007 and 2008 dining plans available on the Disney website. If you are going in 2008, you might want to be sure you aren't reading the 2007 Dining Plan brochure.

Caveat Emptor.
