Disney Rash as Bad in DL?

We just got back from a week-long trip to Disney World, and oh, the Disney rash. Animal Kingdom and EPCOT got me. We’re now planning on venturing out west for our next trip, and I was wondering if people tend to get Disney rash as easily out in Disneyland since it’s smaller and less humid?

It's a Christmas red heat rash that looks like cellulitis, typically appearing on any exposed skin that's gotten too much sun in Orlando's near-100% humidity. Doesn't look evenly red like sunburn but blotchy. It's apparently the combo of extreme heat and moisture on skin that does it.

Scared me when I got some because I'd had a staph infection not long before and thought it was that again.

Reedy Creek paramedics said you can prevent it by covering up pretty much all over, hot though that is. Layers of lightweight fabric loose enough for moisture to be absorbed or synthetics that wick it away work best. Older people and young kids are more likely to get it than teens or adults, they said. Added that my skin was probably unusually reactive due to the staph infection even though that was a couple years before.

They recommended long pants with crew socks instead of the sneakers with no-show socks I'd been wearing. The ring of Disney rash was just above the top of my socklets.

What cleared mine up fast was the H2O sunburn gel sold in the Grand Floridian gift shop. Aloe gel might work, too.

Be aware if going to WDW. Disney rash is no joke.

There are many reasons why this happens and you should be seen by your Dr. Humidity and heat can definitely trigger vasculitis. The black asphalt is a major factor regardless of the heat index. The nurses at DLR see this type of rash all of the time and will give out cortisone cream for relief. You can also cool down in First Aid and use ice packs to reduce swelling of the lower extremities. Hydration, antihistamines and steroids can help. Again, something to speak with your MD about.

I've gotten it at WDW and even more so in NYC since I was young. I don't recall ever getting it at DLR. I usually put benadryl on it and drink some water and it is usually gone by morning.

My sister got a nasty rash on her lower legs after a week at WDW. However she, as well as the rest of us, never had that problem at Disneyland. While Southern California can get hot, it's no where near as humid as Florida.

This is probably the most common question I see on my other social media platforms in regards to WDW especially. For the record I grew up in Florida for 22 years and never had this on either, not even once however was always very active and some have theorized that activity level can be a factor especially in weather that is atypical to where one usually resides.
Humidity for sure can affect so many different systems.

I have been to Disneyland twice (but never during the summer) and have had this issue nor heard of it so it may very well be a WDW only issue.

My mom gets it every time we go when it is hot out at Disneyland. I have also gotten it, but not too bad.

I used to get it from WDW, but cover myself in baby sunscreen 50+

Not sure what it does but now I’m good!

I've gotten it a couple of times at DCA, less shade and more asphalt than DL. Mine was on my lower legs, above my socks (I was wearing short socks and tennis shoes) on a very hot and very sunny day. It wasn’t really a rash on me, more a few spots, and it went away in a couple of days. Doesn’t happen every time in those conditions though.

I’ve heard of it before related to DLR, but it may have been on Facebook and not here.

I got it at Disneyland during a july visit. That was a miserable trip for me. I was nearly 400lbs and the best and all that walking took a toll on my body.

I lost 180lbs and have not expirenced it again at a Disney park.

so yes it's possible.

What the heck? Eww. I have never heard of this. For those that get it, does it happen elsewhere too or just at Disney Parks?

My understanding is that it's largely from heat radiating off of asphalt, so it could happen anywhere under the right conditions. Most of us probably don’t spend that amount of time on our feet in those conditions anywhere else, though.
