Disney Quest & Autistic/Anxiety/Sensory kiddos

SN parents I need your opinion. One of my kiddos saw a blurb about this raft ride or something that is at DQuest. I have always skipped the DQ because we have enough issues as it is. The GAC and WDW itself is wonderful. Heck if only the 'real' world was as helpful lol.

Can anyone tell me about kids on the spectrum in DQ? I do not mind going there with them but fear upsetting the entire day all for what could be avoided or all for 20 mins of mishap. My kids (mainly one of them) does not settle easily. He becomes overloaded and the day is done! He is the one with the mixed DX.

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Overloaded is a good way to describe DisneyQuest. It is loud, dark, and crowded . My personal opinion it is a sensory nightmare. There is no "escape" or safe place to go except to leave. And there is no quick escape to avoid a meltdown. You either need to go down flights of stairs or deal with an elevator. And there is no GAC for Disneyquest.

I agree! It is sensory Overload (but it IS a great place)

TY for the heads up, it sounds like we are better off staying out of the DQ!

This is why I love the disboards because it helps to skip the factors that could upset the entire day or trip

I agree with the other posters that it is very noisy and stimulating. Some people have posted that their children with autism or ADD/ADHD really liked it and some that it was a nightmare. It probably depends on whether or not the person is a sensory seeker or a sensory avoider.
It sounds like your child one child may get overloaded there.

I had not previously had anything about DisneyQuest in the disABILITIES FAQs thread, so I added the following information:

DisneyQuest at Downtown Disney

• Allearsnet has a good page of information about DisneyQuest, which includes a link to a recent photo album. The main page does include a list of wheelchair accessible attractions.
• WDWinfo (the parent for these boards) also has a page about DisneyQuest. It doesn't include as much accessibility information, but does include good descriptions and also a link to a page of pictures.
• Posters have written that DisneyQuest can be loud and confusing, partly because of all the activity and stimulation. But, it is also a large, 5 story building with a kind of confusing floor plan. Some have written that their children with ADD/ADHD or autism loved it and others found it too stimulating.
• Overview video of DisneyQuest - music background, not sounds of DQ
• DisneyQuest Tour Video 1: Score Zone - not the best quality, but gives a good overview of sound, activity. Tour 1,2,3,4 are by same author. Filmed by kids, for kids

ty ty Sue... I think I am going to skip it a while longer. We waited a few years before doing Fantasmic till the youngest 'grew' into it so I think in this case I will let DQ sorta slide a while lol
