Disney Quest and Autism

Has anyone tried DQ with a child with autism? I'm thinking of taking Scott for my older son's birthday, but not if it's going to be too hard on him. What about lines, crowds, and the noise level - I've never been. Thanks.

Hey we are wondering the same. My nephew will be ten years old celebrating a birthday while down at Disney. I will be watching to see what everyone has to say. See Terri's post reply to mine. Hey, Kay1! Long time no see.

DQ was fun for Marc, but he is OK in high-stim environments now and he loves computer games so he was absorbed in the activities for a couple of hours. Two years ago we never could have gone in there without major tantrums and acting out. I think if you have a sensitive child with lots of auditory defensiveness who gets upset in high-stim environments, it wouldn't be a good choice. The place is on multiple stories, so someone has to keep a close eye on where the kids go. The CMs in there were friendly and nice enough.

I personally will not go back there.. I get motion sickness very easily, and just watching other people moving around in simulations made me turn green.

It wasn't crowded when we went, in off season.

Hi, Teri and Tripletvan. I should have done a search for DQ on this board. I do searches all the time and don't know why it didn't occur to me. It sounds like it may be okay for Scott. I just hope he'll be able to figure out the way to use certain attractions - the way my older son describes the Aladin ride sounds pretty far out! We just came back from a six-day trip that included a split today, my husband and older son at Guinness and Scott and me at USF?IOA, so that's always a possibility.

I did DQ with my dd. She is a very high functioning autistic child. There are height restrictions. She isn't very good at most video games & refused to wear the helmets & glasses. She loved the Buzz Lightyear ride, but she had poor aim. We spent most of the time spinning. She loves roller coasters & we made our own but she wouldn't ride. They let her stay outside & watch on the monitor. We had fun.

My ds is 6 is has autism. I wouldn't bring him. I'd be afraid of losing him. The noise & the layout of the building would drive him crazy. He'd spend most of the time running the stairs trying to loose me.

DON'T LET THEM OUT OF YOUR SIGHT! It is a really big place.
