Disney Princesses

My five year old daughter loves all of the Disney Princesses, will there be photo opportunities with any of the princesses? I have read that sometimes the princesses appear at the children's programs ... but I would really like to capture it on film and if she's at the kid's club, I think I'll be doing the spa ... (that is the idea ... right?) Also, my daughter has a few of the Disney Princess costumes, is it appropriate for her to bring them ... in case we do get the opportunity for a photo with a princess ... Is anyone familiar with the "formal" photos that I have read about? How are those different from the other photos that are available at Shutters? THANKS!!!

Yes you will have times for photo'swith princesses wesaw Snowwhite and Cinderella in lobby .Took Photos with wendy at the Tea ,You will need a ticket for that . Then on The last day at sea they had 4 princesses sitting at tables in the lobby to sign autographs .When ever you see a charactor on the ship he will have a cast member with them ask that person what time and who will appear next as on the ship navigator it just says times for charactors but not who will be there . I saw some girls and boys dressed up in costumes so do bring them . Have fun .

We had many opportunities with the princesses for photos. We saw Snow White, Cinderella and Belle after dinner many evenings as well as during the day. I only saw Belle in her yellow formal at night and her blue dress with white apron during the day.

We have lots of Shutters pics of DD on Halloween Cruise in her Cinderella costume with many different characters and would strongly encourage you to bring your DD's costumes............especially if she enjoys wearing them.

I read another post in which a DIS member said that on their formal and semi-formal nights, several little girls wore their Princess Costumes and looked quite lovely. Someone else said they saw lots of Buzz Lightyears and Woodies at the Character Breakfast. I think it is a great idea if it pleases our children. After all, it will probably only be one or two pieces of additional luggage!! LOL

I wanted to add my little trick. When we were walking through the Atrium, or anywhere else for that matter, and I saw a cm with a camera, I would ask him who he was expecting and when. We were lucky enough to be at the head of the line a few times that way. Although the kids and parents in line are very orderly and friendly. It was never a displeasure standing in line for any character. The times are also posted in the 3rd floor Atrium which shows who will appear, the time and the place.

Also, I took video of the princess encounters and then purchased the pictures.

I saw many kids with costumes. It is their vacation too and I think it brings a smile to almost anyone who sees them. I wouldn't recommend a costume for the clubs though. They have dress up stuff there and I imagine potty time would be a little hard in a costume.

The character appearances in the clubs aren't a one on one with your kids. I think Goofy at the sleepover was the only character the kids got to get close to. The others are up on the little stage with the kids down on the floor either learning a song or a dance or hearing a story. I think that is why they say it isn't a photo op in the navigators.

Last bit of advice, don't be anywhere without your camera. You never know where you will run into a character and be prepared to see the biggest smile on your child's face and have them speechless with joy.

This all sounds wonderful, but I have a problem--Belle's been a princess every Halloween for the past 4 years (with Aurora scheduled for this Oct., Cindy next...you get the drift). But her Belle costume is so puffy! It's an eye-popping dress, but if she ever gets wind of the possibility of bringing it on the cruise, well, we're not going to have room for much else in our suitcases! Especially if Buzz decides to bring his space suit... DH thinks Belle would look absolutely stunning for formal night, though.

I don't think the belle costume would be a problem at all. We saw many little girls on our cruise dressed as cinderella and belle! I say go ahead and let her wear it...it would be SOO cute!

Could you possibly surprise her with it? Put it in a pocket she won't see and don't tell her that they can bring costumes. They do sell some costumes in the shops on board, but that one sounds especially pretty--too pretty to leave behind.

Although I said the bit about the extra luggage tongue in cheek in an earlier post, it was true for us. We took an extra hanging bag for DD's Cinderella Costume, poofy full slip, my Snow White costume/wig and DH's ghoule get-up/mask. The hanging bag was easier with the poofy skirts. Another thought: (although this may have only been for the Halloween) Mickey's Mates had the WDW costumes for Belle, Snow White and Cinderella on sale in the store. They were the classic costumes with full detailing.

I think your DH is right - The pictures from your formal night would be treasures!! When we cruise for Christmas 2003, we will be packing costumes again (for her - I think DH and I will leave ours home!!)

Ginny--I was toying with the idea of surprising Belle with her costume. It really is special (if I say so myself--you should have heard me grumble over the 6 yards of candy-yellow satin!). Her (first grade) class was speechless when she walked out in it! I think it may be too big for a total surprise, though. Also, she would probably want to bring the Aurora dress also (not yet made, except in my head). I have some time to toy with this, but then I was thinking, maybe a special trip to the beauty salon to get her hair done--she's never been to one. Then I was thinking I sound too much like a stage mom, and there are plenty of other things to spend the money on (like the fancy photos of formal night, which I'm sure come at fancy prices...). Decisions, decisions!

By the way, if you look at the pictures of the shows, just about all the princesses are represented. I'm sure they all take time out of their busy schedules for "meet and greet". As an aside, Buzz collects lipstick kisses in lieu of the traditional autographs. This is so cute to see, and I'm saving the photos to embaress hi with later!

You made Belle her costume - I am in awe!! I can only imagine how beautiful it is.............what a lucky little girl!! What great memories!! And, to have another costume (even if it is only in the "design" phase)in the works - sounds pretty special, too. What works of love!!

Just as an FYI, all the pictures from Shutters (regardless if they are candid or formal pics with the backdrops) are the same price depending on size (someone please correct me if I am wrong). If I recall, the smaller ones (6 x 8 - odd size) are $10 and the 8 x10's were (20.00). Plus, our friends took some digital shots with their camera at the same time.

Ginny--Yes, I made the Belle costuem. Simplicity haas the patterns, Disney authorized. I made Buzz's also (43 pieces, chaning thread every step for all the different trim colors, grr! ) Since Belle is a planner, I picked up the Aurora and Cindy patterns when they were on sale, to be ready. I will warn everyone that they aren't for novice sewers, although I'm no pro--just a lot of pieces, and with the Disney eye for detail that looks so nice but can be a pain to duplicate. Also, they have Auroroa in satin--the costumes at WDW are a velveteen, so I'm debating in my mind--I'm a stickler for authenticity. I probably sound liek a nut, but Belle is 6 now--how many years left do I have of the princess phase, so why not get into it while I can? Soon enough for the fights over tank tops and jeans that show their underwear!

Those picture prices really aren't that bad, considering. When we were in WDW last year, we got 30 minutes with a photographer as part of our package. He took us to various spots in MK (several offlimits to regular visitors). We got some nice shots, got to keep the negatives, and wound up using one of the 4 of us for our Christmas card. Of course, as a mom, I look at it and think, gee, I should have dressed them nicer, Belle's hair is messy...but the smiles said it all, even without the castle in the background. Perhaps we'll get something comparable from the formal cruise photos.

They also have a package price if you buy 5 10 or 15 photos where it is a little cheaper but I think it is for the smaller photos only not 8x10's . But the photographers are great after they take their photo they pause a minute so you can take one as well with your camera.
p.s. what movies are Aurora and Cindy from ? Guess I am not up on my movies LOL .

Yes they are. We were on a 4 day cruise in January. We didn't see Cinderella though and I took my girls to EVER photo time scheduled. I really wanted nice pictures and figured the more I got taken, the better my chances!
We saw Belle (in gold gown and blue dress with apron), Snow White and Wendy.

We are booked for the 2-3-03 cruise on the Magic ,but we are going to stay 2 nights at WL and go to MK before heading to the Port. Instead of packing our DD costume I was thinking of letting her pick one out at the shop outside Cinderella's Castle and take it with us on the Cruise. She loved that shop when we were there in December and I did not let her buy anything,but a Tink necklace. This year for Christmas I am going to give her $100 Disney dollars and let her buy whatever her heart desires. The costumes in that shop were just so pretty and seemed made really well. We took DD Cindy costume with us for breakfast at the castle and our DD was so excited and I got great pics. I think it would be really nice to let them wear the costumes for the formal nights.
