Disney Princesses - Which are official Princesses - which are honorary?

Oddly DH talks about this a lot. he is very irked that Giselle is called a Princess when she isn't one.

Giselle would count as a princess by most standards

But why? Which standards? She wasn't a princess before she fell in the well, and she didn't marry a prince......

I hope Giselle doesn't make it into the Disney Princess "line-up". Enchanted was a hideous movie and terribly contrived.

But the Beast lived in a defunct kingdom which technically had no power due to the witch's spell.

The only true princess was Arora (Sleeping Beauty). She didn't have to marry to get the title.

Neither did Ariel or Jasmine.

Just tell him Nancy turns out to be Edward's Princess and get over it.

I think Giselle "qualifies" only because she has a big puffy wedding dress based on the items that they sell (most pictures show her in the wedding dress -- I don't see t-shirts with her in the purple evening gown she wore at the ball).

Even Morgan asks her if she's a Princess and Giselle answers "Not yet but I will be when Edward and I get married".... (the quote may not be exact but I know she says "not yet but I will be...")

No, Tinker Bell isn't a princess- she's a very talented fairy. I think she'd argue that fairies are better than princesses anyway.

And the Tag Fairies are even more talented than Tinker Bell. They are far more powerful than princesses!

I will say, the DIS should start selling shirts w/ the Tag Fairy (if one could possibly decide what she/he looks like..) on it. They'd make TONS of money. I know I'd buy one.

Wasn't Snow White "technically" a princess too? Her father was the king, and she was the king's daughter which to me equals princess. The queen killed her father and tried to kill her, but I don't think that revoked her princess status, did it?
