I have a crazy question. Has anyone upgraded their Signature A/P to a Premiere pass using WDW park hoppers? Can this be done?? We are planning a trip to WDW with the free dining promotion and already have a DL Signature AP and part of the promotion "if we get it" would be to purchase PH's in order to get free dining. It would be nice to be able to get a discount on merchandise on our upcoming trip if possible. Please let me know if anyone has any experience with this. TIA!

You cannot combine tickets to upgrade...only add cash payment to one of the existing ticket's value to upgrade.

AP + Additional Payment = Upgrade
ParkHopper + Additional Payment = Upgrade
AP Value + PH Value = No Go

People use a similar strategy all the time to get a Magic Morning and/or blackout access by purchasing a Multi Day ParkHopper then upgrade to an AP on the last day, but you cannot apply that to an existing AP.

As pp said you can’t combine the two ticket media. But depending on when your DLR pass expiration date is I would recommend upgrading your WDW parkhoppers to a WDW pass and then you can upgrade to premier. When you upgrade to premier your expiration date stays the same as the lower level pass that you had.

I have actually done this, sort of. I was given a full priced ticket for chaperoning a foreign exchange student group I worked with, but I already had an AP so I didn’t use it that day. When my AP was up for renewal, I applied that unused ticket to the price of my pass and they deducted that from my renewal in full. If you are up for renewal you should be able to apply unused ticket media to the price of the pass. Maybe I misunderstood what you were trying to do, but within 40 days of renewal that should work.

Also note when upgrading your Signature AP to say a Premiere, the full difference in rates needs to be paid but yet the AP sill retains the expiration date of the original pass regardless of how much time is left. Upgrades do not reset the AP year clock.

Thanks everyone. My AP expires in July and my WDW trip is in November. Maybe I will use the PH to upgrade to a premiere AP prior to going to WDW. Can you do that at DL with a WDW PH?

You can upgrade the PH to a Premiere AP, but you cannot do it until you arrive at WDW. Tickets that are part of a WDW package can be activated in DW up to 10 days before the first day of the package, but not earlier.

Thanks for this info. I appreciate it!

Was this at DLR or at WDW? And how recently did you do this? I have been trying to find out if DLR still allows unused tickets to be applied toward AP renewals (not new purchases -- I know it works for those), even though the policy says that technically they don't allow it. The last time I know for certain that it was done at the booths was in 2015 when the AP levels were restructured.

What I am actually thinking of doing is purchase my Premiere AP in October as my Signature AP expires in July. Since I have to purchase WDW tickets I thought I could use those at DL to purchase the Premiere AP as an upgrade but this may not be possible as they are WDW tickets. I could do this instead or renewing my AP in July. If I did this as I am a CA resident would I be able to do monthly payments?

Probably not. Since it’s WDW ticket media your going to have to do the upgrade at WDW more than likely. I know you can upgrade a WDW AP at DLR to a premier AP, but I have not heard of it working with tickets. Also, to get the monthly payment on the DLR side you have to buy that pass first then upgrade.

I just called Disneyland and they said that the WDW tickets are on a different ticket system and you cannot upgrade from them at DL because of that unfortunately. I was trying to figure out how I could go to WDW this year and plan an additional trip next year during Halloween time in addition to my Halloween trip to DL this year but I was hoping for too much on this one. Oh well I may still go next year to WDW for Halloween instead of DL we shall see. Thanks everyone for your input.
