Disney Ponchos?

Do they still sell rain ponchos in the parks? Years ago we went in the early 90's and they sold this really cute yellow ones with Mickey on the back. I know they were a bit pricey but my parents bought them because it rained several days of our trip and we hadn't come prepared. They were great. On my last trip there as a parent we brought cheap ones I bought at target that were useless and lousy. We're headed there again next week and rain is in the forecast. I'd love to know if Disney still sells them... price and quality.

They do! Most stores have them behind the counter even if they aren't out! I think they were $8. I got mine this summer and it has lasted through two trips when I needed it, traveled with me of one trip I didn't need it, and I keep it at school on case it's raining when it's time to take the kids to the buses.

We still have usable yellow ones that we bought years ago. For a long time we took them along each time in case of rain. Then they switched to a "clear" vinyl -- and I don't recall what year.
We still prefer to keep the Disney ponchos on hand. They'll outlast any less expensive one you buy. That said, we often saw ponchos from Universal or Sea World, etc. Many different colors. Also looked sturdy.
If you take care of the Disney ponchos, they'll be well worth the price.
:thumbsup2

Great - this is exactly what I was hoping for. I'll gladly pay $8 or even $10 for something that will last, instead of $2 for a piece of junk. Thanks for the quick reply!

I bought a poncho on a trip in May, since the forecast was calling for rain all day. Since that trip, I have been five times, and have used it at least once on most of those trips. I feel that have definitely gotten my $8 out of my poncho, and keep it with me on every trip just in case! Every time I use it, I make sure to air it out completely and then it folds up very nicely to fit inside of a Ziploc bag (yay for taking up very little space in my bag!).

Just be careful, though - if you're big-headed like me, use caution when pulling the poncho over your head - it has a tendency to want to tear where the hood meets the opening!

And if the Disney poncho rips or the snaps tear off, it can be exchanged for a new one!

What size ziplock bag does it fit into? Gallon? Quart? Sandwich?

We have had our for three trips and keep them folded in gallon size Ziploc bag until we need them. Remember if your poncho rips or you get a hole in it, take it back to any store and they will exchange it for you free of charge. You don't need a receipt but you do need the ripped poncho. We've done this a few times, especially with DD's poncho -- she's not as gentle putting hers on or taking it off.

Thanks. I had been thinking about The Great Poncho Debate (cheap vs Disney) a lot since we are going in June, which I've heard is their rainy season. I've decided for DH and I we will save room in our suitcases on the flight over and just buy one when we get there.

Doesn't rain a whole bunch in June, but it's the start. Don't buy until you need it because you may luck out. :)

Oh, well I thought I read somewhere that June has the most rain. We are going in the last half of June. But, yes, we won't buy one until we need it. Rain, I can manage. I just want to avoid hurricanes and tropical storms!

Well there is a page or two that says June is the wettest month, but we vacationed for years in June and it never rained on us, perhaps we were lucky. Except for this one time a tropical storm blew thru... Whew, rain!!!! When we visit in August, it seems it always rains. This is just our experience.

Rain, we just throw on our rain coats on, grab a hat and go. Just our experience. I wouldn't buy until I had to. The stores have them readily available. ;)

I love our Disney ponchos, we've had them since 2005! They've survived multiple trips, my friend borrowing them for two trips, and I wore mine several times while training for a 5K (I felt very Forrest Gump like running in a poncho) I think this will be the trip I finally need to purchase an adult one for DD as she is just as tall as me now!

If we rip an *old* one will they still exchange it? Ours are clear but they say Walt Disney World, not Disney Parks (I might have that backwards, but I noticed on our last trip or one before they were slightly different than the ones I saw for sale then.)

We are also going in June. Our last June trip it only rained on us one day that wasn't just a passing afternoon shower. (at least that I recall) We've been once in August and it seemed the rain always went around us. I even joked we were inside a Magic Bubble built by Disney. (but I also remember how hot it was in August like I remember how painful childbirth was)

They should replace your old poncho. WE had friends that had the old yellow ponchos and they got a replacement without question. The only time we've had trouble was in a store in the Italy Pavilion at EP; they wouldn't exchange a poncho-- but I think that was due to a miscommunication.

Also, the Disney ponchos vinyl material is much thicker and more comfortable than the cheap versions. I had some I'd picked up for free somewhere. They were very clingy!

~We travel to Disney during peak hurricane season, so we are ready to poncho up at a moments notice. We love Disney's ponchos! One year there was a design flaw and all the poncho's kept ripping during our vacation. We must have exchanged them at least four or five times -- but there was never a hassle. We buy new Disney poncho's each year because we just toss them after each trip. I know they will replace new ponchos if they rip, I can't speak for old ones. Have fun! :goodvibes
