We saw it today. We liked it much more than we thought we would. We went to the 8pm showing and there were about 12 other people in the theatre I was happy to see that in the small theatre with big seats.

It did a little better this weekend. I am thinking it's more of a word-of-mouth movie because the previews, as another poster said, didn't do it justice. Glad to her people are enjoying it!

Probably won’t get the Elemental legs, but may not be a massive bomb by the time it’s done. Though Elemental got a more staggered global release. It’s possible (maybe even likely) that Elio finishes below $150M globally

Stitch, Zootopia 2, and Avatar 3 still likely to cover the majority of losses at the box office before any PVOD revenue. With Fantastic 4 being a ?? on how it performs.

There is almost no promotion for the movie here in Europe. Hardly anyone knows about it. And that includes the regular Disney/Pixar/nerdy crowds.

Makes me think why. It is set in space, right, and the rest in the US? I know with the current political climate the US is not very popular over here, but I can't imagine it is so bad that Disney would stop promoting a movie set in the US. It seems unlikely, but I can't think of any reason why Disney would not promote this movie.

In my own town, there are only 2 viewings per day, both a dubbed Dutch version. The original version in English was only shown the first few days.

I got an email from my movie theater and they give a short list of family movies to watch this summer. Several Dutch movies, How to Tame your Dragon and Lilo & Stitch. No mention of Elio.

I am a bit curious, but not enough for the high prices movie theaters charge nowadays. Downside, I do not have Disney+ anymore, so if I want to see it... I do have to go to the theatre.

We saw Elio and enjoyed it. Loved it? No. Liked it. It was entertaining and kept one's interest.

The movie lacked something that most successful Disney animated films have: a really good soundtrack and/or at least one memorable, catchy song. This movie had neither. Nor did it have much of a sense of humor, another hallmark of many Disney animated films.

No. I saw it opening night, preview on Thursday (actually), with my DW. I cannot see myself ever watching the movie again, even for free on D+.

1.) It wasn't all that funny. I recall laughing aloud twice.

2.) The way the movie was "shot" was extremely boring to me. Nearly the entire movie was "filmed" in the center of the frame. I raised this issue in a different post in a different thread (?) and another poster explained that there is a filmmaking term called "framing" and that when you capture actors or present the movie that you keep the actors out of the middle of the frame and you keep them to the 1/3 of either side of the frame.

3.) The story was a bit of mess. It didn't resonate with me. It felt like more than one person wanted to tell a story and it couldn't mesh. You can have competing stories told together, but they have to compliment each other.

A significant problem I have with more modern Pixar movies is that the story telling and narratives are far poorer than Pixar's earlier work. I attribute much of the decline to John Lasseter no longer having creative involvement. The last Pixar movie that amazed me was Coco. I am unsure, off hand, if that was made with Lasseter's involvement. Given the story telling, I would think so.

Also, it sounds like there was production issues with the director.

4.) And this is trite, the music choices were bizarre. Once In A Lifetime is a song that had no reason or purpose to be in this movie. It is almost as if the people making the movie had no idea what the song is even about, and David Byrne has explained the song's meaning in past interviews. It wouldn't take much research to understand that it is not consistent with Elio's behavior. Elio was not operating on auto-pilot and was making very deliberate choices and behaviors.
