We are going to Disney June 14-25 and I was starting to look at some fun things to do while we were there. I thought about the pirate adventure for ds who will be almost 5 when we go. Does anyone have any info on this. I looked at the disney web site and could not find anything more then them mentioning it. Any help would be great!!!

My two boys ages 4 and 7, my niece (age 5), and my nephew (age 8) just did this in December. We did the Albatross Treasure Cruise at the Yacht Club which is offered on Wednesdays and Fridays from 9:30 to 11:30. The group that my kids were in had 12 kids, 7 girls, 5 boys. There were 3 cast members with the 12 kids. They started by giving the parents pagers, giving the kids nametags, putting life vests on the kids, and also giving every kid a pirate bandana. They went over rules quickly, and then shared a piece of a map with the kids. From then on, the parents left and the rest is what my kids have told me!

They sailed around to the different places on the map. Each place, they found another piece of the map. This day, they sailed to a few of the Epcot lands, which my kids loved. From pictures they took, I'm fairly certain they went to Canada and Mexico. I"m not sure where else. Once they found all of the pieces of the map, they then found their treasure. After finding the treasure, they had an Uncrustable peanut butter and jelly sandwich, 2 oreo cookies and a juice box. Next, they chased around Pirate "Stinky Feet" and ended up docked at the place where we left them. They had the treasure divided up by then and each child came from the boat with a huge smile on their face and a bag of treasure. The treasure consisted of a really cool pirate hat, a ring, a necklace, a pirate bouncy ball...that kind of stuff. It was more than I had expected it to be.

The kids said they had a blast and would love to do it again. It was one of the highlights of their trip. It was also a nice time for the adults to do some shopping at Downtown Disney! From what I saw and heard from the kids, I would definitely recommend to you. Here is a picture of the boat they took (look close and you will see that they had it decorated for the activity) and also of the life vests and pirate bandanas. Let me know if you have any more questions and I would be happy to ask try to answer them for you! Have a good trip!

By the way, we are also from Iowa! Woo-hoo!

thanks so much!
He is really into pirates right now and I think he would love it. It sounds really fun. My only concern is that he will not want to go by himself. He can be really shy sometimes and other times he surprises me. He is the only kid that age that is going with us to disney this time. Not sure when we will go again. Is it true it is only $30.00? Does the different cruises do different things or does it not really matter which one you do? Thanks again!

The best part of the Pirate Adventure (which our 6 and five year old loved), was the brief moment that Mom and Dad had without the kids! Time alone at the Grand Floridian, pure bliss!:woohoo:

Can someone help me figure out where to buy tickets for this? Is it first come - first served? My DS would go bananas for this!

Thanks so much for the positive review of the Albatross treasure cruise. We have this booked for January 30th for DS8 and DS5 while we take DD3 to the Princess breakfast in Norway. They love going out on boats and being on the water. It is also good to know about the "pirate treasure bag" so that we can arrange to have a little "princess goody bag" to avoid un-necessary sibling complications!

In response to where you book it, I made my reservation on the dining line when I made other ADR's (407-939-3463). I also had to give a credit card # to book the cruise. Sorry I don't remember what the cancellation policy was. I just know that they said to arrive 15 min. early, and that tennis shoes and socks must be worn.

It is around $30, yes.

You call the same number as the dining reservations to reserve a spot. They take down your credit card info. and you actually pay for it the day of the cruise.

Parents are NOT allowed. Kids only.

I believe most of the pirate cruises are very similar. I have heard some have different bandanas, etc. They visit different places also depending on where they leave from.

All of the kids that went on the cruise that my boys went on were very nice. There were several kids that were by themselves and they ALL came back happy as can be. I'm sure it helps to know someone, but once they took off, I don't think it probably makes much of a difference. They worked as a large group the entire time...as far as I know. I wouldn't hesitate to send one of my kids on their own.

Hopefully that answers everyones questions. Let me know if you think of something else and I'll try to answer it!
