Disney Performing Arts Workshops

Does anyone have experience with the performing arts workshops at DLR? I'm signing my daughter up for a couple, but I don't know anyone that has done them before. Just curious what to expect.

I don't see a way to sign up individuals only groups. I will be interested to hear what you (or others) have to say as this is something my son would really enjoy.

I wonder if this is what my son's choir is doing May 15th. Al I know is they are doing some recording thing at the resort that lasts 90 minutes.

My daughter did one with her orchestra last summer. I think there might be different workshops, but the one her orchestra did was to go into a recording studio and they performed (sight reading) some music that was then synced up with clips from Disney films. I didn't attend the workshop, but the kids seemed to enjoy it. I believe they give the group a dvd of the clips with their recording. I haven't seen/heard the one my daughter performed but saw the one the orchestra did on their previous trip and it was neat!

My son is registered for the parade workshop 7/23. I somehow can't remember how I heard about it.

She's doing acting 101 and premium musical theater. Two of her favorite things, acting and Disneyland. She's excited, and I'm excited for an excuse to spend three days at Disney.

My son has done the soundtrack session with two different choirs. Both times they recorded music from The Lion King, but the more advanced choir had a more challenging arrangement. After the recording they got to watch the movie scene with their voices on the soundtrack.

She's excited, and I'm excited for an excuse to spend three days at Disney.

I had to "force" my son to go for two Disney days; he just wanted to do the workshop and get out. We haven't had the best time at Disney in the last couple years. But just yesterday he started asking what rides we would plan to do. When I originally told him about the workshops (I think I also saw it on FB...good marketing team they've got!) I didn't even have to finish the sentence and he was saying YES.

He's finishing up his dance stuff for the summer, we're heading down to do the Disneyland thing, spending time with my brother for the next 5 days, then up to Long Beach for a week-long Tap intensive called Dancerpalooza. It's hardly a vacation for him LOL. Which is funny because he's been telling me that on our themepark trips he wants to go *slower* and do *less*. And then he willingly signs up to dance 6 hours a day for a week LOL. Guess we all have different definitions of fun! Then again, doing all this is actually MY vacation. He doesn't compete but he takes a lot of classes, and I'm tired of what feels like driving around in circles. I need a break from my routine for a month.

He just asked me if he could start taking acting lessons. Alas none of the other workshops work with our timing or his interests. But I'm glad that he's getting that *just* being a dancer won't get him far.

Maybe we'll see you. My kiddo is about 5'8", will be a new 13, and he has copper hair and brownish eyes. People have asked us, VERY seriously, if he's the "Peter Pan" kid in the GEICO commercials. (the answer is "no, but I wish!") I'm short with mousey brown hair and I'll probably be broiling LOL. Say hi.

My daughter is 11, short light brown hair, actually playing Peter Pan in her school play (pretty obvious the Drama teacher chose that play specifically for her, it's her last year in elementary). She auditioned for Newsies, with a professional company, first role she's ever not gotten. Luckily, she's Chip in Beauty and the Beast with the same company, back in November-December, and they boot it up again next month for June in an outdoor theater. It's cost us a fortune in gas money because it's out of town, on top of the dance classes, and voice
She dances, just ballet right now, will probably go back to jazz and tap again in the fall to help the musical theater.
These workshops are basically her consolation prize for not getting the Newsies part. She's going to grow out of the boy parts quick.
