Disney Parks Blog: Matterhorn Update-Adding a SR line!

Thanks for posting this. I love when we get behind the walls looks at things.

Single Rider--that's great news for me! (Though when I told my east-coast friend the good news, she was envisioning how awkward that would be with the tandem sleds! :flower3: )

If the new sleds make the ride smoother, as some have speculated, I have the feeling I'll be riding the Matterhorn a lot more. At the least, I'll probably finally ride at night. (Before the rehab I almost always rode during Magic Morning; it was harder to justify the evening wait when I could ride it with no wait at all early.)

Thanks for the link!

I was there two weeks ago for my first time to DL and was sad to see it closed for refurb. Hopefully, I'll get to come back when its finished and brand new looking!

That single-rider line will come in handy for us dads who want to squeeze in another coaster while the wife and kids are in Fantasy Land.:thumbsup2

That will be awesome! I love the Matterhorn, but I don't ride it very often because of the line. Have they announced a date they expect it to re-open?

June 15, I believe, is the announced date. Which I think is a little weird since its anniversary is the 14th--but it sounds like they picked the day to coincide with Cars Land's rumored opening date.

Just wondering.....do you expect the new cars to have a faster loading time = shorter lines overall? Or not enough of a difference to make an impact on the wait time?

I'm sure it will carry slightly more people and have faster lines.

Now everyone can get in similtaneuously. No longer the big person gets in then the small person in thier lap. Better HCA loading.

The capacity will be close. While the amount per train has gone from 8 to 6, I've seen a number of ex Matterhorn CMs state that the former trains averaged about 6 guests each. Not everyone had someone in their lap. At least with the single rider line the new trains should be full everytime.

The Matterhorn was my most favorite "scary" ride because the ride is so rickety it made me "feel" like I was going to fall of the track. That added to the excitement.

Just like Mulholand madness.

I would feel safer if it was smoother for sure. I can't decide if I like that or not... :confused3

I wonder if the new cars will require a new height limit. Matterhorn was the first "big" coaster that DS(3) able to ride. The only reason he did it was because I promised he could sit on my lap! With the new configuration, I'm not sure he will want to ride as he'd be "alone" in his seat.

I'm hoping for an early opening since we'll be there on May 31! I've only been to DL once before(1986) and Matterhorn was closed then too!

The Disneyland website says they're down for refurbishment through June 14 (http://disneyland.disney.go.com/disneyland/matterhorn-bobsleds/). Do you think it means that's the last day that they're closed or the first day that they're open? I agree that it would make more sense for them to re-open on their anniversary date.

With the refurbs, typically "through" includes the last day listed, so they would re-open the 15th. It's possible they could open a day earlier though.
