Disney Parks App - What is the purpose?

When the Disney Parks app was first introduced, IT WAS GREAT. We were told one of the purposes of this new app was that Disney was attempting to stop visitors from purchasing items for the sole purpose to reselling on third party web sites (eBay).

Initially, if you forgot to purchase or for the people that fly could purchase from the app and have them shipped home, this app was wonderful. Your AP discount is available. There were even sales! The Parks app was my go to to buy everything Disney.

Now even the initial screen states to go to the Shop Disney app for a larger selection.

Ever listed item that is popular (that makes it to eBay) is only available for in store purchase only.

Has this app simply turned into a catalog of “Look what you could purchase if you were in the World?"

What am I missing?

I agree. There's no point to the app, if I can't buy the items ("in store purchase only"), which has become a large portion of the app. I used to love it, but if I can't get the item....might as well shut it down.

I suspect it started out with good intentions, but it became a hassle for them or just wasn't worth the effort to keep up and utilize. So now it serves better as a catalog of what you can get in the World. I only ever used it once, but I stopped quite a while ago for all of the reasons you mentioned.

The app can be useful while at WDW to locate what store(s) has an item you are interested in. We used that feature a few times during our last trip.

At this point EVERY item I attempt to add to my cart, I get an error message.

Disney, either make the app what it was when it was released or close it down; you choose.

This! I agree it could be a lot better, but I still find it useful for this feature alone.

I have definitely noticed that more and more items are “in store only”. Super frustrating. Just incorporate that into the on-site shopping function on MDE and shut the Shop Parks down.

Yes I used to love looking at the app and occasionally purchased items. Now it is either the same stuff or items you can only get in the park. It is worthless to me. I don’t think I can use my AP discount on park merch from the main Disney shopping site. I could from the app. Very disappointing actually.
