if i purchase a disney park hopper pass for christmas but cannot go to Disney until Sept - can I wait and use the purchased ticket then - as long as it has not been used once

Yes, you can use the ticket on a future trip. Tickets expire 14 days after the first use (unless the no expiration option is purchased), so as long as you don't use the ticket now, you can save it for a future trip .

You sure can. I bought all my grandkids 7 day park hopper passes one Christmas. My son's kids have used theirs, but my daughter has not. As long as you do not use them, they are good forever. Once used, they are good for 14 days from the first day used.
