Disney Paris on Points......

I would love to hear from anyone who has been to Disney Paris on points........firstly, I know that the park passes are included, but does it include breakfast at the resort?
Secondly, what sort of room did you get for the points? I know it says in the handbook that it is a standard view room but wondered if anyone has had a better allocation than that on points.............hoping for a suite in the DLP Hotel! ha! ha!

I will be staying at DLP on points but was told that no upgrades were going to be available. It was my understanding at one point and time you were able to book a suite using points but when they stopped doing this, I'm not sure.

I have gone ahead and treated myself and DD by booking the Tinkerbell Suite, since it may be awhile, if ever, we get back to Paris again!

We are doing this in August just prior to the Repo Cruise.

Personally, I think that this is a very poor use of points. To check room only rates, go to www.expedia.de (the german site; other sites don't always have the room only rates)

Park passes are pretty cheap - a top tier AP with a sponsor discount was only about 170 euros.

I paid about 80 euros for a room at the Cheyenne, before AP discount, and a room at the Sequoia Lodge was 100 euros with the discount.

I realise that it might not be the most 'economical' use of points, but we have a few left that we'll lose if we don't use and won;t be going to WDW next year, so it will be my short Disney fix!!!
We are going at a slow time of year, 2nd week in Dec, which I'm hoping would increase chances of up-grade to a nice view?!!

Deb, I did get an upgrade to a view room at SQL when paying cash; can't comment on using points.

Also, keep in mind that while Dec is 'low season' on weekdays, it is actually a VERY busy time at DLRP. The weekends are packed with holiday visitors there to see the decorations. Wednesdays are also very busy due to no school for French children.

Dont bother its another great Disney points rip off. I live in the UK and wouldnt dream of using my points to stay here, rather rent them out and pay cash this will save you a fortune.

We stayed at DLP on points this past June. Our view was not upgraded but it was a lovely room by european standards. It included breakfast buffet and the admission tickets, also some fastpasses. While some may consider this a misuse of points, we enjoyed our week stay and as long as we have the points we will use them anyway that suits us.

It use to be a lot cheaper. Looking back at my records, we only 'paid' 29 points/night in November, 1994. That was weekday nights. It did include the park passes, but not the breakfast.

That was peak season, Nov 28- - Dec 2, 1994. Today you can't even get those dates as they're not even listed (guess they're blacked out). But if going early November, 2007, to the Sequoia Lodge, (Nov 5-9), peak season, it's 57 points/night weekday. Almost double what it was originally.

Thank goodness for DVC. I also show that in May 1994 we stayed at the Disney Vacation Club resort (now called Old Key West Resort) for 20 points/night for a 1-B/R villa. (weekdays). Gee, we're going again this coming May, 2007. Got a 1-B/R villa , and it's costing us, um, let's see,.........20 points/night.

I did do and don't really have any regrets. (I don't RENT points under any conditons! )

I was upgraded one "hotel" level. From Newport Bay to Hotel New York. Have no idea why! While in "theory" you can get cheaper rates etc trying to book a room only reservation at DLP is difficult.

I wanted to stay in walking distance to the park and in a nicer hotel after a few weeks of 2 stars in Europe.

I have also stayed at the Disneyland Hotel. (You don't want to know what that cost if you pay LOL! I went for one night in December and it was very cold so it was great to be able to just go back to the room and warm up, but I decided on my second visit I just could not justify the cost!

To me it was well worth it. I would probably do it again. (I bought my points to enjoy, I don't waste a lot of time worrying about maximizing the value)

I agree wholeheartedly with that sentiment! DW and I plan on going to DLRP in 2008 and using our points for rooms for us, our kids, and grandkids. Sure, we could probably save our points and pay cash, but we've already paid for the points, and bought them to use them, so why hoard them?

Well, to each their own! I compare CaskBill's dates for the SQL at 57 points/night - if those points have a 'value' of $10/point, then it's $570/night vs the 100eu ($120/night) I paid. (and I know that we can argue the $10/point). And I also realize that a lot of people don't want the hassle of renting out or tranferring points.

Carol, I actually walked from the Cheyenne, which is the 2nd furthest away of the Disney hotels - took me about 10 minutes. The Santa Fe would be another 5 minutes. How did you find the Hotel New York? I think of it like the Swan/Dolphin (and the SQL didn't impress me - very stark compared to WL - I liked the Cheyenne best)

I think though that as Tubtruck points out, if anyone is going to go to DLRP more than once or twice, the point value is not great.

I actually had no problem at all booking direct with DLRP - first time was on www.expedia.de, other times by calling (now, ask me about booking in 1992, and that WAS difficult!)

We're condisdering that for this August and saw that there is both a 'commuter' train station and a company that runs daytrip busses into Paris. I would really like some first hand insight from someone who has done this if possible.

We've already checked w/ MS and there definitely is room availability, and were comfortable with commuting into a foreign city on the train, having done it for a year while living near Munich.

brad, come join us on the DLRP part of the boards! we get that question all the time.

the RER line from DLRP takes 40 minutes to Auber station (near the department stores, Opera, and the office of one of the hop on/hop off tours). It takes 45 minutes to CDG-Etoile, near Arc de Triomphe and Champs Elysees. That is a direct service ie no stops, no metro etc.

I would point out that Paris may involve a lot of walking, so factor in 15-20 min from your hotel to the RER (by bus or walking), 45 minutes train, and then walking/bus/metro to the sites. Reverse that at the end of the day. If you are hearty and don't have small kids, I think that it is very doable.

Hotel room prices vary widely in Paris, so you will need to factor that in.

We also have lots of info about the different types of metro tickets on the DLRP board, including those that the French website does not translate into English.

Bavaria has even mapped out for me how to get to a meeting place for the Champagne Tour that I will be taking, which I am greatful for!

I would NOT do this. I think Paris is one of the most amazing cities and you can get some GREAT deals on hotels there so to me it's not worht the high point cost to do this.

Both of my Disneyland Paris stays were after a stay in Paris and while it's not a bad train ride it's probably close to an hour each way. Paris is beautiful at night and I wouldn't want to worry about how I was getting home etc.
