Hi,
I remember a few years back that some folks got bumped to SSR or OKW because Disney had overbooked the mod resorts and some values. Has this happened to anyone lately??? I'm booked for CSR for OCT and I know it's going to be very busy with FD and F&WF. :confused3 Just don't want any unknown surprises when i get there....Hopefully they will let you know ahead of time.

I think in the past they offered upgrades to people in advance, not at the front desk. October is very busy for DVC, I doubt there will be empty rooms at OKW and SSR. It was more of the late August/September timeframe in the past. It wasn't "accidental", they did it intentionally because they could not fill OKW and SSR at full price for free dining but they could fill value & moderate rooms. So overbook the cheaper rooms to get some cashflow and then upgrade some people to the empty rooms, they may like it and buy DVC.

We were one of the lucky families that got moved from ASMu to SSR in 2009...we went the 3rd week of August. I believe that was the second or third end-of-summer that they offered FD. The week we went was the first week of FD in '09, I believe. Great marketing strategy...we had 3 reservations linked together; one for our family of four, one for my mid-50 year old parents, and one for my single mid-20's sister. My parents got a PIN and I got a PIN, but my sister did not (she ended up going into my parents villa when we upgraded). We knew something had to be up in the marketing department. And we came very close to buying into DVC on that trip because we loved the resort and the ammenities so much...sneaky, sneaky.

we got offered the upgrade in 2009. We were there the last week of september going into October. We were booked at all star music i believe. We received an email ahead of time. We didnt take the upgrade. We were traveling with friends and they werent offered it.

Just to clarify ;) This Disney Dining Plan started in January 2005. It's been offered free as a promotion every August/September since then. The promotional discount has become more widespread over the years - but 2009 would have been the fifth year :).

But 2009 was the second or third year some guests were upgraded to OKW/SSR :teeth:

We were offered an upgrade from POR to SSR on the 4/3 plan back in December 2009, at a savings at $200.00. I know a lot of people reported being offered that upgrade from the moderates during that year.

It wasn't because they had overbooked; they had great promotions that year and OKW and SSR had a lot of availability especially for our week right after T-giving.

We were booked at Pop Century last July and received an email about a week before that we were upgraded to SSR or OKW. I don't know if this was isolated or widespread but this was just last year.

As far as DVC, there usually isn't much availabilty when booking through DVC in October. But they don't fill those resorts with DVC members. If they offer upgrades there, it's because they have extra rooms in the cash inventory from DVC members trading their points out.

In Oct 2010 we booked POR and got upgraded to the POLY!! It was great!

Ive been upgraded once we were staying at CSR trying to check in and they asked if we liked AKL and we got moved to AKL with a savannah view it was awesome.:cool1:

May 2011 we had a king room booked at the POFQ and when we checked in at the desk in the lobby they told us they oversold king rooms and could upgrade us to SSR but we do not like SSR so we asked for a queen room at the POFQ....they were able to do that for us

We were one of the ones who were booked at ASMu and offered an upgrade to OKW or SSR. We would have taken it in a heartbeat, but the ironic thing was, we received the e-mail while we were AT DISNEY on a previous trip and didn't see it until we got home!! By that time, all the upgrades were taken.:headache:

We are 2 adults staying at POFQ in Nov. It's slow season, so I doubt that we would be offered an upgrade. However, just curious - are 2 adults offered a one bedroom villa or a studio? I wouldn't want OKW or SSR for a studio! Love the Poly though, but haven't been there in years. I've heard it needs refurbished.

Also, I wouldn't like being reassigned without our agreement.

We originally missed the upgrade because we were on vacation and didn't see the email until 12 hours after it was sent. By the time I called they were all out of upgraded rooms. However, the CM I spoke to when I called told me to keep our PIN and call back closer to our arrival because it is not unheard of people having to call and cancel reservations. I called 2 weeks before our trip and...Disney Magic did it's work! I was able to upgrade our room as well as my parents' room.
