I currently work for The Philadelphia Zoo. It's a job I'll probably have until the fall.

Ok...so a month ago I got a pending letter from Disney about the Summer Alumni Program. About a week ago, I got my purple folder saying I was accepted for Attractions (third time SAY WHAT?).

Since my boyfriend of three years and I broke up....I'm a free girl. I don't have to stay at home to see him over the summer and such anymore. And career wise if I want to pack up and move to Florida after graduation, I can. WOW AN EPIPHANY.

Anyway, my dilemma. I am currently at the zoo. The zoo is a seasonal job, as is the Disney job (until August that would be). If I leave the zoo for Disney, I won't have a job when I get back. If I stay at the zoo, I'll be out of a job come the fall anyway (because it's seasonal and they only need us during the busy season).

Pros of Disney:
-Disney again
-Disney as my backyard
-Making more friends from everywhere
-Being able to see friends who are still in Florida (LIZZIE!!!)
-Living on my own again
-getting away from here; it may make it harder for me to deal with this breakup if I stay here all summer
-ability for me to be more social
-will feel safer then being at the zoo
-less stress from mom

Cons:
-taking the car down there again ($$$)
-less pay, but not by much
-crazy hours depending on what park I'm placed in
-less $$$ in my pocket after a pay check because of rent
-no job in the fall
-HEAT!!

Neutral
-online class in the summer

Pros of the Zoo
-9 to 5 shifts
-smaller crowds
-closer to home
-more pay (but not by much)
-will have a job until the fall

Cons
-multiple jobs (ride operation, cashier, turnstiles, etc)
-feels less safe then disney
-near Center City
-one break a day (30 min lunch, too busy to get 15 min breaks)
-parking will be hard to find come summer
-city heat and cranky city people
-having to pester people to buy memberships

So be honest...what should I do? Disney or stay at the zoo? Thanks for the input!!

Personally I would do Disney.
One because you have already done it and know what is to come
Two because of your break up, I would say that it would be easier
for you to overcome it.
Three because you can meet many new people, one could possibly turn
into a boyfriend? ya never know:goodvibes
Four because you can visit old friends you havent seen in a while
and Five BECAUSE ITS DISNEYWORLD

AND even though I LOVE the Philadelphia Zoo (I live right outside of philly, horsham, pa so I have been to the zoo countless times) I would still say go to disney have fun dont worry about the job situation until the time comes!

Hope this helped a little bit

Same. (: (Well, not where I live, but about loving the Zoo and such.)

I say go for Disney. You could do some networking down there and maybe it will turn into a FT job.

The way I see it, either way you're out of a job come fall, so go to Disney where it could turn into more.

And many people meet new boyfriends/future husbands down there. You'll get over your break up real quick! =)

I would say Disney too, but remember, you're asking us Disney people, not zoo people. So to be fair, I have to admit that responses here will be biased in Disney's favor. Still your call, but I'd say Disney, personally, in my own little biased way...

Wait...THIS IS A DISNEY BOARD?! I thought this was for the zoo :lmao: :rolleyes1
Kidding, thanks for the input =).

Well I would choose Disney too and I would take no job in the fall off of your list due to the fact you won't have a job in the fall at the zoo either.

Can you extend on the summer alumni program? Probably not but if you could that would take care of your fall no job issue.

Re-read your post....I think you answered your own question. Your "pros" for Disney outweigh those for the zoo, especially if you are concerned about your safety at the zoo. :thumbsup2

Hey, I am a HUGE zoo fan! I'm always begging my bf to take me to the zoo. I have a feeling many dates this summer will revolve around AK lol

Still, I think Disney would be better.

Hey!! Where in Philly are you! I'm at CCP downtown but I live by Franklin Mills!

My vote: go to Disney! I can't stand Philly lol

I'm about 20 mins from Center City :)!!
I HAVE TO MEET YOU DOWN THERE!!

I would pick the one that makes you happy. Although it is more money in the long run to go to Disney as long as you make the decision that feels right to you its all that matters. If I get accepted I would be giving up a job that I've worked for 3 years on. But I would be much happier for the 6 months to a year working at Disney so Im going to go for it. My mom always says your only young once. I've got my whole life to "work".

I accepted, I just need to pay my program fee ! Thanks all for the advice!
