Disney on Ice newbie needs help

So we're going to see Passport to Adventure in San Jose at the end of the month with the family, but I'm not sure what to expect. I've been to the arena for several events, and having watched hockey I understand that the arena will be cooled down to keep the ice in good condition. Other than that I've never been to one of these shows, even as a kid. I don't think I've even been to any kind of ice show of any kind.

I understand there will be some sort of pre show activity, but I'm not quite sure what.

They usually do have about a 10 minute pre show. Also, there will be places in the arena lobby to buy expensive souvenirs, programs, snacks, and also get your picture taken with some character cardboard set up thing. It's cute though so we always get it.
