Hey folks... Our church is arranging a bus trip to NYC this spring and my family of three is planning on going. We were thinking about catching a matinee of either Lion King or Mary Poppins. I see where the tickets seem to start around $70 and run up to about $130 through Ticketmaster for the early show.

Its been quite a few years, but I remember hitting up the TKTS booth. Has anyone done this for any of the Disney shows ? Obviously if we buy ahead we'd know which show we were headed to that day. Honestly, I don't think you could go wrong with either. So tell me... Is there usually available tickets for a Saturday matinee, and - if there are - how much are the discounted. As always, thanks for any assistance.

If you have a whole busload going, what about seeing if anyone else in the group is interested in seeing the same show? Often you can get group discounts with as little as 10 people in a group.

With the Lion King and Mary Poppins being such popular shows, you may not see any tickets at the TKTS booth.

Thanks for the feedback, AD & LK. The trip is basically transport to and from the city. We arrive around noon and bus leaves at 7pm. Not sure about everyone else's plans, but I may ask around. I did check the Ticketmaster site and it looks like Group Rates kick in at fifteen. Not sure if 12 others are interested in Broadway, or even more specifically one of the two Disney shows. But I guess it never hurts to ask.

AD... I did check the TKTS site. They have a link to tickets available from the previous week. I did see Mary Poppins listed, but as you indicated... no Lion King. And just because MP was listed, I guess it doesn't necessarily mean that any of those tickets were available for the Saturday matinee specifically. Decisions, decisions...

Again, thanks to those who have shared thoughts so far. I welcome other thoughts, ideas, and experiences from my fellow Disboarders !

I have used TKTS for a Disney show long ago, but I have found a couple of websites that offer deals. I don't waste valuable touring NYC time waiting in line and I know exactly what I will be seeing. (waiting in time was more "fun" when one of the TKTS booths was in the middle of Time Square, but it has been moved)

I use-
theatermania.com
travelzoo.com
playbill.com

Another tip is that I call to order tickets. You can double check, but it does not typically cost more to speak to a person. I prefer an aisle seat or the front row of the mezzanine. When I called once, there were more expensive orchestra seats available, but the salesperson on the phone had attended the show earlier that week. He suggested a less expensive seat as the show was "big" and the mezzanine would be better. He was right and I had a great seat and saved $20.

Have a great time!

There was a buy one get one offer for Mary Poppins with code BERTBG, I think. I got the code from broadway box. Only good for certain performances. (no weeekends or matinees?)
Mary Poppins was great!

So based on the feedback, sounds like this may be one of those times to bite the bullet and get locked in to the show of our choice. Thanks for all of the great info, everybody. :thumbsup2

I believe that the TKTS booth is back in Times Square. I passed it the other day:thumbsup2
