ANy thoughts on the disney musicals mary poppins, little mermaid or Lion King.
I am looking to take my dd 2.5 and my son 5. I have read mixed reviews so I am looking for some opinions. Thanks

I haven't seen any of them, but my best friend took her two year old to see Lion King and he loved it- she said it catptured his attention the entire time.

We saw The Lion King and Mary Poppins. I would suggest The Lion King for that age. Both were GREAT!

Based on my son, I'd recommend Mary Poppins. It was his favorite. Lion King just didn't blow us away. Then again, my son LOVES the Mary Poppins movie, so I guess it depends on your kids and which story they're more familiar with.

I believe it's easier to get Lion King tickets, as MP is newer. MP was also much more $$$ than LK.

we saw Lion King last yr, DD was 5 we saw Mary Pop about 4 mos ago and Mermaid last week, Mary pop was her fav and mermaid my fav.
i couldnt get past the people wearing the headpiece costumes in L King...it looked more like PEOPLE.....and I never got immersed in the MAGIC cuz I kept seeing the people(just MHOpinion):wizard:

Felt the same way!!! :rotfl2:

I couldn't concentrate on the story because I kept looking at the mechanics of the puppetry! :rotfl:

I haven't seen any of them but I just got my tickets in the mail yesterday for the Little Mermaid on Nov. 21. I'm excited.

I have 2 DS's...I have seen both Lion King & Little Mermaid without them. Of those 2 I think they would have liked Little Mermaid better. It was cute and the characters use heeleys to move around like fish. I think the kids would love that.:)

I haven't seen Little Mermaid, but off the other two- hands down Mary Poppins!

It was a lot of fun. The dance numbers are great, really high energy.
Lion King has amazing costumes but doesn't (IMO) have the same level of fun and engagement.

I saw MP in London, though it's virtually unchanged in the transfer. Saw Little Mermaid in August.

Mary Poppins has one of the most magical sets ever. And ther'es a major surprise at the end that makes it really incredible (won't spoil it!).It' a show of a lot of technical wonders, and I find a lot of music to be beautiful. It's definitely a show of spectacle. Little Mermaid still has that sense of spectacle, but in a different, more cartoonlike kind of way. I really enjoyed Little Mermaid, but I wouldn't call it as good a show technically. Both are really good. I would say it varies more on your kid's interests.

Sidenote- My little sister fell HEAD OVER HEELS for Flounder when we saw Little Mermaid. She still talks about him, as it's played by a kid. And there's two child actors in MP too... So I can't decide! But they're both very excellent.

Lion King is a amazing. For your boys age that would be PERFECT.
Marry Poppins is great but I would wait until they were 10ish for that.

We have only seen Mary Poppins and it was so fantastic. DD is 10 and just loved it. Mary Poppins was one of my favorites as a kid and I got teary eyed during some of the songs. The actors were amazing. FYI, I would sit further back in the middle if you could. We had 2nd row seats and DH and I were joking that we were part of the show we were so close! I don't like being able to see the mics on the performers!;) I haven't taken DS(5) to a show yet because all the Disney shows say they are for children 6 and older. I know as a 2 yr old DS would not stay still and quiet for 2 plus hours in a theater. For the sake of others I have kept him home!LOL:lmao: At this point I think he is ready(he will be 6 soon) and I am buying tickets to The Little Mermaid tomorrow as a family Xmas gift. He saw some footage of it on the Disney channel and has been asking to go. I have no desire to see the Lion King because of those headpieces. I think it will distract me too much.

As far as availability Broadway is hurting and so are the Disney shows. From what I have heard, the Lion King is still doing better than the other 2 Disney shows even though it has been out the longest. There are discounts available for all shows. Check out broadwaybox.com for discount codes. Are you a DVC member or do you have any friends/family that are? They are running a promotion for buy one ticket get another free for us DVC members for the Disney on Broadway shows. That's why I'm buying our tickets tomorrow it's when the promo starts.

Oh, I would also add that I would wait till they are at least 8 to see Mary Poppins.

Took 4 yr old daughter to Mary Poppins last month and she absolutely loved it. She was zoned in on the show and it kept her attention the whole time.

:) Saw Lion King and Beauty and the Beast Last year on Broadway. Saw Beauty first then Lion the next evening. We were blown away with Beauty and less so with Lion. However, we were much farther away in Lion and that really helped us enjoy the technical presentation--the costumes were not distracting at all. Loved Scar, Patrick Page (sp?) does an excellent job. Have a wonderful time whatever you decide.

I took my 5 year old daughter to see Mary Poppins last year. It was fantastic! I highly recommend it!
