Pixar has only released 2 films since March 2020. Soul, and Luca, both of which went to Disney+. Turning Red is their third straight to head directly to Disney+.

Encanto was done by the Walt Disney Animation Studios.
Actually, Onward got shut down early when the theaters closed in March 2020. We saw it a day or 2 before everything shut down here. So many people were hacking in the theater, probably due to allergies though. It was a little nerve wracking.

I amend, Disney animation overall is struggling greatly. I forgot about Onward and though it wasn't Toy Story 1 good it earned a place on my movie shelf.

It’s no secret that Pixar needs to up their game. They use to be pretty good don’t know what happened. Lost some people? No idea. Last movie I liked a lot from them was dinosaur and a lot of people didn’t like that movie. Onward was ok nothing special

update I just looked at Disney plus Pixar movies in and out was pretty good also. So both dinosaur and in and out both came out in 2015. So since than what happend to 2016-2021? Who left?

They still make decent movies. They aren't bad by any stretch. But they are no longer the instant classics they once were.

There's a wonderful discussion about this going on another forum I visit, so I'll just take the pertinent Idea I agree with -

I get why they do it but the optics of shoving a beloved studio, not quite property, onto direct to video while you give your own in-house studio films at least a partial theatrical release is ... hm.

If they had done day/date release like with Raya, sure, but at this point, if Disney doesn't want to pay for marketing, standees, posters, they have the option not to.

I totally forgot about Raya, it was...good? I don't remember it being bad, very How to Train Your Dragon vibes except HtTYD was it's own league, I wish Universal had done more with it in the parks. Maybe I'm just getting old because very little has impressed me the past few years. I think the last time I was blown away by a 'movie' was Hamilton on Disney+. I think movie makers in general have spent to much time working on how 'pretty' a movie looks on everyone's big screen rather than I good solid story arc with relatable characters.

Disney has increased their demand on Pixar they are aiming for them to produce 2 movie a year but they have also been cutting Pixar's staff. It's a terrible combination for quality. The fact that Soul still managed to come out as good as it did was good. They have gotten into a pattern of one good, one middling and I think that shows that inside the studio they prioritize one over the other while still trying to meet the release demands. If I recall correctly Turning Red was given the go after the reception of Bao, which was 2018, so a 3/4 year development cycle is promising but I think its short for Pixar.

Any rumors of when Festival of Fantasy Parade will return? We will be there the last week of March and would really love to see it.... kinda hoping Spring Break season and longer hours will push this soon

Supposedly there was some ads out looking to hire for what people expect is Festival of Fantasy but even if they were hired yesterday those CMs train for months in order to do the choregraphed route. So maybe by Spring break?

Raya is probably my least favorite WDAS movie in the past 10 years :( I think Kelly is great, but the story suffered from (perhaps) a lack of in-person collaboration.

I do think Disney/Pixar does a lot of coasting these days, even though I think Encanto is among their best. Sony Pictures Animation is really striving to improve and doing wonderfully.

Re movies both Disney/Pixar
Frozen 2 - theatrical run but had Disney + premiere pushed up from June to March/April

Onward was out maybe a week or two before shutdown was released on PVOD very shortly after and Disney+ by April/May

soul was slated for summer 2020 theatrical moved Christmas 2020 Disney+ original

raya scheduled November 2020 theatrical moved March 2021 theatrical/premiere access

Luca scheduled summer 2021 theatrical moved to Disney+ original no date changed

Just an update to this closure, the monorail will now be closed from February 14 until March 6.
In addition to a possible refurbishment, the monorail is also closing in order to accommodate the demolition work necessary for the AMC building in Downtown Disney.

New Details Emerge Regarding Disney’s Monorail Closure
I had to read that three times to figure out how in the world the monorail was affected by AMC. Disneyland! Not Disney World!

I need more sleep.
