Okay, so I finally got everything together for the Movie Review thread. Here we go!

How it works:
1. Whoever's turn is it to host a movie picks out a movie to review (ex. 101 Dalmatians) and gives a date and time for the reviews to be submitted in by.
2. The reviewers watch the movie and write up their movie reviews and submits them to this thread by the date/time they are due.
3. Host picks a winner for the best review and then whoever has the best movie review gets to pick out the next movie to review.

*If you are the host, your movie review will be the last submitted and you can not choose your own. I'm sure nobody will do that, but I thought I'd put it here just in case.

*Please remember to choose the winner of the best review by how detailed and how closely it sticks to the movie, because it is not based on length.

Movie Review Guidelines:
1. Length does not matter.
2. Your movie review must be descriptive of the movie while adding in your opinions to what is happening. (ex. If I was reviewing Hercules, then I would write down about Meg singing her song. Then I would add in my own opinion on if it is a good song, a bad song to sing, maybe comment on the actual singing or how it ties in with the moment before.)
3. If you have anything you want to emphasize, please put it in italics.

If you have anymore questions, I will explain the rules in further detail if you PM me. The first movie to be reviewed is Beauty and the Beast. Please have your written review submitted to this thread by Saturday, August 31 at 3:00 pm.

Beauty and the Beast

Beauty and the Beast is a tale as old as time. The songs fit the themes, the characters keep their personalities throughout the movie, and the storyline stays intact. Some might wonder though why Gaston has everyone following him around. Even popularity can't get everyone in the village to become your 'soldiers'. And what has Belle ever done to them to turn against her. These points have often baffled me. Therefore I give the movie a rating of 4 and a half stars.

(Sorry this isn't the best, I ran out of things to say :confused3 )

Beauty and the Beast starts off on an incredibly high note. "Little Town" is the perfect introduction to the tale; within the first 60 seconds, we've already made some sort of connection to the character. We know Belle loves books and tires of the normal, everyday life, longing for an adventure. I believe that Gaston's wild popularity is justified as well in the opening song; we see his talented shots as he hunts and LeFou's odd admiration of him. It's not strange that the entire town looks up to him: compare it to your school. There's that one kid that everyone is obsessed with, and you're really just not sure why. Fast forward to when Belle's "crazy" father has prepared his invention and is off to the fair. I love and can't get enough of how well Disney portrayed Felipe, the horse. His movements and expressions in reaction to the wolves could not be more accurate to how a real horse would act in that situation. Once Papa arrives at the Beast's castle and ends up in the dungeon, I love how the Beast is not yet shown in full lighting: it adds suspense and fear of the unknown. Back in the village, Gaston is working on persuading Belle to marry him. She is very clever in figuring a way to get him out of her house, and I love how when he comes up sputtering out of the pond, there's a pig on his head. What a great use of irony: Gaston really is a pighead. I can't help but notice when we see Lumiere, Cogsworth, Mrs. Potts, Chip, and the gang how well of a job Disney does of giving life to inanimate objects. It's incredible how they move and talk. You forget they're not humans. The scene were Belle gives her word to stay in the castle does a good job of causing you to sympathize with her; you really do begin to feel bad for her. I think there is a weird transition between the tower scene and the scene in which "Gaston" is sung. The music piping in is so upbeat, yet you still see the woods and castle fading into the background. It's too sudden. When "Be Our Guest" is performed, I can never take my eyes off the screen. I can taste and smell everything (which may be in part because of Mickey's Philharmagic!) I notice something new every time, like Cogsworth getting stuck in the gelatin. When Belle leaves and is confronted by the wolves, the Beast comes to save her. This is where things turn around. However, I do wonder why the wolves aren't afraid of him until after he's fought them. I would be pretty scared if I was a wolf and a creature 10 times the size of me with razor sharp fangs was looming over me! I love the rest of the movie; the fight scene is intense enough but not too violent for Disney, and it's just great. The "Tale as Old as Time" scene always bothered me a little, though, because the computer animation isn't fitting in relation to the rest of the movie. All in all, Disney's Beauty and the Beast is a spectacular film, and as GoofyFunYun said, truly is a tale as old as time. (Sorry, Goofy, I just had to use it, haha that's a really creative line!!)

Review:

Beauty and the Beast is a classic story of how looks do not matter and that it is on the inside that counts. The music flows perfectly into each number and the animation is a wonderful quality and the story stays true to itself. The characters of Belle and Beast are very wonderful characters, who make a good couple. I would like to point out that it is not explained in the movie why everybody hates Belle and this shows the auidience that society is filled with people who do not except reading, at least it is this way in Belle's world. I don't think this was properly introduced. But it does create for a villain whom is often seen as a hero in fairytales based on his looks and ego alone, although this is not the purpose of the story other than to create a villain.
The story is told well. The beginning is wonderfully done. The stained glass telling how Prince Adam was changed into the Beast was done well. I would have to say that the ending is one of the best, really capturing a wonderful end to the story. The characters whom are appliances in the house changing back to human, that was done well, but the best transformation by far is the Beast back into Prince Adam. They don't really say Prince Adam often in the movie, which I think the story should have mentioned his real name.
For what it is, it's a wonderful classic. It has great music, music that fits everything. In the song Gaston, it displays upbeat music. The upbeat music is not very well seen in a Disney villain song. That is why the Mob Song works well as a villain song because it is the same dark tone that we are used to for a villain song. Both songs portray the character of Gaston, how cruel is after not getting his own way. It shows how incredibly selfish he is, but also shows that he takes not getting his own way to the extreme. I would say that this movie is a great movie to watch.

Now it is time for the winner.

The winner is abidale for pointing out great points of how well the animation was done and how all of the songs flowed into the story perfectly.
An honorable mention would be GoofyFunYun for critiquing how it didn't make much sense on why everyone in the town hates Belle.

And abidale can choose the next movie to review and pick a date for a review to be turned in by. Remember that length does not matter here.

Thanks so much!!! Ok, the next movie is 101 Dalmatians, and they can be due in one week (Saturday, September 7) if that's okay!

Well, I didn't get any movie reviews this week haha... I guess Dalmatians wasn't a very popular choice! Villainess, should I just extend it? Or change the movie?

I would probably extend it. Sorry I didn't have time to write the review (sorry for late response too), I have just been sooooooo busy with school. I already have two quizzes for the rest of this week, so it's really hard to review a movie while studying lol.

Don't worry about it! in all honesty I never wrote mine either. So busy!!! It's easier to DIS in the summer! When should it be extended to?

Whenever you want it to be extended to. I have time today (maddness!) so I might get around to putting it on here this weekend.

Well this died fast xD

School has kept me from watching at reviewing. Grr I really hate school.

Yeah... I don't own 101 Dalmations, so I couldn't do a review.

Haha sorry!! Let's just say 101 is a no-go :rotfl: Villainess you should pick a new movie and start over another round!!
