Disney movie 'horror' recuts on YouTube

I teach new media and society. One of the things I try to bring to my students is an understanding of how the technology we have is great...BUT...the line between ethical and unethical use is growing more and more blurred.

While I think some of the videos are hysterical, I also think they illustrate unethical use of another's intellectual property.

It ticks me that Disney takes nursery schools to court for using Disney images, but allows these videos to stay on YouTube.

If you were so apalled why did you post the link . . . . . .

Those were pretty funny.... I think this was a round about way to get us to her blog... :)

Great blog by the way....

Art, literature, and other forms of expression are subject to parody. Disney itself parodied its own Princess movie genre in "Enchanted". I just don't get the big uproar- it's not as if anyone actually thinks Disney is putting out horror versions of their animated movies. Freedom of expression goes both ways, IMO.

Did you see last night's Simpsons? Talk about making fun of Disney. The dog representing Goofy being taken to the gas chamber and saying "it still beats working for Disney". And the whole Lady and the Tramp episode.

I saw that last night. My feelings were mixed. I was thinking, just because its a cartoon, they are getting away with everything.:sad2:
But all the while, I was:rotfl2:

Ok..I have the say the trailer for Mary Poppins was great. And if you search you can find that kind of stuff done to alot of movies...have you ever seen the "recut" trailer for Se7en??

I just think it is fun and takes quite abit of creative thinking.

I also saw the Simpsons last night and thought the Lady and the Tramp spoof was funny..and that is my favorite disney movie.

I think if you are going to teach this as a matter of ethics you should read up on parody and the fair use doctrine.
