We received an offer for the Disney Movie Club and are looking for any opinions from those who are members. Some of our questions are...
How big is the movie selection?
Are the regular price movies higher than at the stores?
What are the shipping costs?
When finished purchasing the additional 5 movies, how easy is it to cancel the membership?
Are there any movies for the vault ever offered?
How satisfied are you?

That's all for now but I'm sure I'll think of something else. Thanks in advance for your help!

I joined with an offer from the Disney Visa where you got 4 free movies up front. I did the math and determined that, even buying five movies over 2 years, it still came out cheaper than buying them in the stores given the fact that we got about $80 worth of movies free. Shipping is 3.95 per order plus 1.00 for each addl. item (so the more you order in one shipment, the more cost effective it is).

The movie selection is big, with live action and adult titles (like Sweet Home Alabama, etc.) included along with animated movies, preschool titles (baby einstien, etc.). The regular priced DVDs are typically 19.95 - 22.95 and there are some boxed sets. This is a bit more than places like WalMart (at times, anyway) but when we figured the cost of joining, the $80 in free movies offset the small increase in retail prices and shipping costs. They also have some good sales. I've been wanting the Rescuers on DVD and it's on sale for 11.97 right now. This won't count towards my agreement, but it's a better deal than I've seen anywhere else, even with the shipping.

I haven't canceled, but I probably won't when I reach my commitment. What it comes down to for me is that I would buy these movies anyway and as long as the prices remain competitive and service good (everything I've ordered has come very fast and has been correct), I'll stick with it. I'm not 100% sure what your asking about the vault. Sorry. HTH

I have done better with Walmart, etc. the new releases are usually on sale somewhere.....we got Princess Diaries II for $15.98 at Target, the day after it was released with no shipping. A lot of the older titles are really coming down too. Our Blockbuster sells used dvds for $25.00 for 3, I haven't bought any there before though.

I just canceled my membership. I joined two years ago, fulfilled my agreement and then didn't purchase anything else because I always felt I could do better going to Walmart or another local retailer and buy the same video cheaper and without a shipping charge.

I've been in it for about 6 months. I liked getting the 4 free.

But, I don't find that they have the newest releases. I wanted the Disney princess dvd's (some tea party thing--I'm giving it to dd for bday in a week). I'm not sure when they got it in, but it was a bit later unless I wasn't looking in the right spot.

Yes, I've found I probably could get a better deal (if you don't take into consideration the 4 free) at Best Buy Circuit city or walmart.

but like someone else said, there's a large selection on sale at the club right now, so I'll buy a few for dd's bday.

I wouldn't recommend it. I still don't see some of the brand new releases that came out last month. I've heard it can take a few months to get those added to the Disney Movie Club list. So, if you like to get the new releases right away, don't even bother with this club. But, if you just want to update your disney collection (like replacing all your old vhs with dvds), then maybe this would be good for you.

The also send me lots of sales. But if you purchase any movies on sale, they don't count toward your fulfillment. So, you still have to pay the full price (like around $21 for the dvds) to have it count toward your contract fullfillment.

If I could do it over again, I never would have joined it.

Mary

I just joined the club and agree with others that it's a really really good deal if you take into account the four free movies.

When a new release Disney movie comes out, it tends to be on sale the week of it's release date. So Finding Nemo would have been like $15.88 when it first came out. If you are the type that waits for the movie to come out and buys right away, then the club price would be higher at $19.99. However, if you haven't bought that movie yet then I see Finding Nemo as $19.99 standard price around here.

They do not have access to "vault" movies or movies in moretaureum (movies Disney has pulled from the shelves. Like the fact that Cinderella is not currently available anywhere and you won't find it at the club either.

The shipping costs are fixed: $3.95 for the first item and $1 per each additional item in the same shipment. If you wanted to fulfill your requirement right away, you could just buy your 5 movies and get it over with in the next month.

I am not excited about the fact that they will send me something in the mail that will indicate what the "featured title" of the month is and that if I don't respond it will be automatically shipped to me, but it seems that with web access this shouldn't be too much of a problem.

Do you have a Disney Visa? They will give you a promo code to get 4 free movies instead of 3 free, so that's a better deal.

I intend to use the club to supplement my collection, realizing that if I want a new release movie, like Bambi when it comes out in March. I will have to buy it not with the club if I want it on the release day but for movies like the Muppets and dvds that I'm converting from my videos, it seems perfect.

::yes:: Exactly! I joined back about 2 years ago? but I haven't ordered since I fulfilled my membership. It costs about 25 with the shipping for something I can get for 15 at Wal-Mart. I am considering canceling.

I joined several years ago and the free movies were a good deal for us. But now, to join again would not be a good deal because we have most of the Disney movies, and as others have stated you can get the new movies on sale at many retailers.

The fives movies are a good way to start a Disney collection. You can see their selection of moves at www.DisneyMovieClub.com

Like everyone else I jpined for the free movies. Also I was seeing that others were getting free pins as a VIP guest. (Completed their agreement.)
I did just that, and was promised free pins or other little gifts on other occasions. Never received anything, but the movies I ordered and paid for.
I even e-mailed on several occasions. Never received a response.
I even flat out told them I was not ordering anymore due to them not fulfilling their end, nor replying.
Apparently they did not care -- until I called to cancel my membership.
The CM asked why. I told her. THEN she asked if I would like a pin.
Told her No Thanks. They did not appreciate my business. I never even received a canned e-mail response.
I frankly just did not take them to their word after my experiences.
Agree you can buy the movies cheaper elsewhere.

When I first start with them they were having trouble apparently on their web with NO responses for the selection. It did not recognize the NO. I had to mail the card anyway.
But then after around 4 months it was working.

Once during that time I mailed back my cards, and in plenty of time, and marked not to mail me their selected DVD. I still rec'd it.
The DVDs come in a plain, small box with DMC & return address in the corner. Not realizing what it was, I opened it. I had to pay the shipping for the return.
I e-mailed them what happened and received a response that Sorry you did not return your card. The movie is yours.
I returned it anyway and received a refund for the movie. But I was still out the shipping.

If you join, fulfill your committment and leave. I would say if everything goes as it should, it can be fine. Any issues -- good luck.
