Hello!

I just purchased a couple Disney Mix Sticks (MP3 Players) at a local store. Today, I searched on the Mix Stick within the Disney Website - and found where they're selling them on Disneyshopping.com.

What I'm concerned about is in the description for the Mix Sticks - Disney listed the following statement:

"WARNING: This product contains a chemical known to the State of California to cause cancer, or birth defects or other reproductive harm."

What?? - Says nothing about this chemical on the box! I bought these for my 6 and 4 year old music lovers...

Does anyone know what this chemical might be - or have any further information about this?

Thanks for your time!!

I don't know for sure but I can venture a guess. As it is an electronic device, it contains a circuit board with parts soldered to it. Many of these solders contain lead. This is probably the reason for the warning. That notice sounds like the typical compliance notice that I read on all sorts of electronic equipment I work with (and have worked with since I was 7...). I would not be too concerned by the warning but that is just my opinion. Some cabling may contain some trace chemicals from what I have read but that is probably not the case. The warning sounds like a blanket covering the electronics inside the device.

I must say that those are nifty MP3 players!

Hope that helps.

Assuming that you aren't planning on your kids eating them, I wouldn't worry about it.

I never worry about warnings that apply only to California. Proposition 65 requires them to put a warning label on anything that contains anything that may be dangerous. That pretty much includes every last thing that has ever been manufactured.

Thanks for the responses - it's alleviated some of my concern over it!! I'll hold onto them - the kids love them, and are having a great time with them.

thanks again!!

The California law is about phthalates. Something they put in plastic that makes it soft. (There has been some news about it lately in baby bottles and such) It has been banned in Europe as well as California. As long as your kids are old enough not to put it in their mouth, it shouldn't be a big deal...but from what I have heard about it, it is something that we should try and keep out of the mouths of little kids.
