I am planning on buying them for my kids when we get there on Friday. I hear that it is worth it to buy the ones they sell at Disney because they are better quality, and I don't mind spending a little more if they are gonna last. My questions are A. What type of batteries do they take, so I can bring extra in case the batteries die. And B. What are the blades made of; is it safe to let my 1 year old hold? Thank you!!!

Double A's (2 of them) and the blades are foam. safe for a one year old!

We LOVE ours. We got them two years ago and use them all the time...baseball games, other amusement parks, anytime we are hot. We bought two and they have lasted much longer than I expected.

I spent $4.50 on one at Walmart for my ds that worked GREAT the entire trip and a subsequent trip to Branson.

My Aunt bought her kids the Disney ones and two of them broke within the week. One leaked after a short time. Another one had the plug that stopped closing. However, when buying a replacement for the first, the CM realized they were buying it because theirs was broken and he exchanged it for them at no additional cost. Then they exchanged the other. Also, later in the week when another child in our party lost theirs, the CM who helped them look made sure they got a replacement. I thought this was great of Disney!

All that to say, you will get your money's worth if you buy the Disney one but the Walmart version can be just as good, too.

They have been redesigned this year. YES~they are worth the extra $ if you take care of them. Yes, WM does have the cheaper version, yes they will work just fine. But I do think the quality of the WDW fans is a little better.

we got the WM ones and saved the $$,, they worked fine for the week long trip and might hold up for a few more days on a subsequent trip or just a hot day
Actually I kinda liked the ones Seaworld had better,, the blades were not foam and they went around in a circle thingy on the top,, IMO that made better sense with us kinda laying it around here and there it wasn't smooshing the blades

Thank you for the quick responses! I like that if it breaks Disney will replace it. I think we will get them when we get down there. Thanks for the heads up on the baby ripping the blade, sounds like something my son would do! I am getting antsy, we leave on Thursday (driving from NJ) and surprising the kids, they have no idea we are going! I am so excited I could burst! Thanks for the info everyone.

Since it's the end of summer, some stores are clearing them out.
I saw them today at CVS, 30% off. Sorry, I didn't see the price.

I should add, we did get ours at Walmart but it wasn't a store brand. I believe it was o2 brand. It has the circle on top that another poster mentioned.

We bought the Walmart fan this past year. It worked great for the entire week. We are still using it, but knowing that Disney will replace a broken one is a great thing.

Your kids are going to be SO happy. As for the fans, the Disney ones are of very good quality, they WILL exchange ones that tear up and they also will give you free ice to put in it. Tip: don't put much water in them, you can always add more and if you fill them up you are adding both weight and the chance that you could end up with alot of water spilling in your lap if the filler cap comes off. BTW, be SURE to take a pack of fresh AA batteries with you and replace the ones that come in the fan when you get a chance...the ones that come in them are pretty low grade. You won't need a screwdriver to take out the batts, like you do with most children's toys, you just slide a lever to open the batt compartment. BTW, most of the lighted toys that they sell also take AAs. I always pack some extras in my camera bag just in case.

We bought one for DS on our trip this past week. It was the most awesome thing ever. It was like buying a toy for him. He was so entertained, playing with it all over the place. I wondered at spending the money, but now, I realize that it is a really useful souvenir and well worth the entertainment value while we were there.

We purchased 3 Disney ones for my girls in 2002 and guess what??? They STILL work!!! I just might take them this Fall w/ us :).

I was going to buy a stroller fan for my 2 yr old, but having read about these I am re-thinking that.

Does anyone have any thoughts? Should I do one over the other? Both?

Does anyone know how much the fans cost at Disney? We are going in less than two weeks and my DS would love to get one.

We bought one las year for DD4 and we are bringing it with us this year.

What we did last year was asking for ice or just taking it from where they put drinks to make them cold, and instantly you have freezing mist.

I totally recomend them.

We bought one at the park last September. I think it was $17.

That pic was just TOO cute!! Brought an instant smile to my face. They were $17 when I was last there as well but perhaps inflation is rearing its head and they are now $18...still a good deal.

As for the stroller fans. If you buy one be SURE to take EXTRA batteries...we went through 2 sets a day. The airflow is pretty weak but they beat nothing. Be sure to buy one before you go....I hardly saw any for sale while there.
