Disney-MGM Studios Busy Sat 17th due to Star Wars W/E

Any thoughts on whether Disney-MGM will be busier than normal on Sat May 17th (EE day) due to Star Wars weekend?

In certain locations, it may be busier (around Star Tours), but other than that, it should be normal crowds for an EE day. I would say that there will most likely be 2 groups at the rope drop that day: those running towards ToT and RNRC and those running to Star Tours. But other than in the select locations, I don't believe that it will be that much busier. At least I hope so!

We'll be there this year on that day! We've been there during Star Wars weekends the past few years (we aren't great fans--just always works out this way). We notice a little larger crowds but nothing like the Saturday's at MK. There are some addl. people but I didn't really notice any longer lines than on any other day. One thing I did notice, the afternoon parade was packed. That was the only thing that stands out from my recent trips. For those not wanting to view the parade, this is a great time to do TOT, etc. Hope this helps!

Geeze....you guys are really confusing me with the dates, may 16th is a Friday, May 17th is a Saturday......

Star Wars Weekends do not really affect TOT and RNR, in my experience. The crowds are on the other side by Star Tours, and go down a bit to Indiana Jones. I would not call them crowds..more like gatherings they are not huge, actually quite managable. I saw crowds of people equal to when you see a performer in Epcot (the statue lady and the candy guy) One time we were there (at the same time of year) and we were not aware of Star Wars Weekend and we noitced a small crowd gathered. That's when we found out what it was.....but then it was during the first half of May, when it is not as crowded anyway. I don't know how the Star Wars crowds are Memorial weekend and after..........we avoid WDW during those times

Early May is a great time of the year to go, it is not as crowded. You will enjoy Star Wars weekend too........lots of fun, we will be there too!

I'll be there for opening weekend (yeah and i did not plan it that way - bonus!). I hope that it won't be too crowded! thanks for the info!

Uh Oh!! Sounds like a lot of people headed to MGM for Star Wars on opening weekend. As the others have said, usually the main bulk of the crowd is over near the Star Tours ride. In addition to the celebrities, there are a lot of costumed characters (Darth Vader, stormtroopers, wookies and warriors) walking around and in certain places doing autographs and pictures. If you have a small child that might be frightened, you might want to avoid this area, some of these characters look pretty scary.

I just bought FL resident Play 4 Days passes so I could take my son on 4 of the Sundays to meet the celebrities. He's very excited that the first weekend will be Anthony Daniels (C3PO) and Billy Dee Williams (Lando Calrissian). On one of the websites it suggested that Natalie Portman might be there, but when the final schedule came out and she wasn't there, my son was very upset.

A hint to all of you looking to get autographs - get to the entrance EARLY!! What the CMs have done in past years is to give out paper bracelets with a number on it, this is your place in line for a particular celebrity. These bracelets go quickly, especially for the big stars, so get there early and walk around looking for the CM giving these out.

Aside from the events planned for SWW, the regular attractions should be at normal capacity, if not less.
