Been 3 years since our last trip. With our luggage tags we used to receive a "letter/form" that was needed in order to board the magical express in Orlando. Now our luggage tags are showing up in "magical express" envelopes, with an insert that just has a bar code on it and our name, yet no "letter/form" like there used to be. Did they do away with this Paper-proof? Or is this insert in the envelope the replacement? Or did I simply not get my magical express paperwork?

Confused...

Going to Disney, anything will suffice as proof of reservation including a copy of the aforementioned luggage tag, which has the date printed on it. At one time I suggested that if you wrote down the name and city of the person you talked to when calling Magical Express to make or confirm the reservation, the envelope you wrote on would qualify and I dare say that still works.

Recently "everyone" says you should merely have your Magic Band scanned although I would pose the question what would happen if a glitch results in nothing happening. But for all I know, nowadays the person scanning the MB would summarily let you board although s/he would have also to reach down to a clicker on his/her belt to make sure Mears (who owns and operates the bus) gets an accurate passenger count and gets their share of pay from Disney.

You don't need a letter to get on DME from MCO to your resort only the return trip.
You should receive a letter the evening before check out hanging on your door. If you don't get it then just go down and ask for it.
You will not be let on DME back to MCO without it.

They would look up your name.

I’m not sure I’ve ever used the letter or band. I just tell them my name.

The letter with the bar code can be used to check in and board DME as can your magic bands, alternately they can also look up your reservation by name and or resort reservation number. IME MB's are quickest followed by the letter with the bar code then by looking up your reservation. You are not assigned to a specific bus on the inbound so just head to DME and check in when you arrive.

On the outbound you will receive a "letter" with your pickup time and passenger information the day before your departure. You will use this to board the bus to the airport.
