I am planning a trip for next Oct. Plan is to fly into MCO on SWA. Spend first night at Art of Animation or POP Century. Next morning use Disney transportation to get to Port Canaveral. Then sail on Disney Magic (using points, I know not a good use of points). After cruise take Disney transportation back to MCO and get a rental car. Then drive to VBR for five nights. After VBR, drive back to MCO, return car and fly home.

Seems like a lot of driving back and forth to MCO. Is there any simpler way to do this? Is there any way I could pick up a rental car somewhere at Port Canaveral and then drive directly down to VBR and return the car to MCO?

Any other suggestions?

Both Avis and Budget are close to the port with shuttles. What we usually do is a one way rental to Cape Canaveral and stay in Cape Canaveral or Cocoa Beach. Even if you plan to stay at WDW, it might be cheaper to do a one day rental than take the Disney bus to the cruise. After the cruise, pick up the car in Cape Canaveral rather than going all the way back to the airport. On the WDWinfo transportation page there is a pretty good one way code for Budget: (Discount rate code Y937800).
Remember, Disney cruise transportation isn't free like DME.
