Disney Magic Transportation in NYC

For those who have experience boarding or departing the Disney Magic at the Manhattan Terminal, has Disney ever offered transfers to the Newark airport? It seems most of the cruiselines out of there only offer transfers to La Guardia. Thanks.

I thought I read in the transfers page that they did all 3 airports. I shall see if I can find it again.

I guess I didn't read that and its a good point to note! I had originally looked at Newark flights and hadn't spotted this!

My guess as to why no Newark is there are additional tolls from Newark as well as the tunnel which is almost always backed up even more than anything from JFK or LaGhetto. Plus if a wreck shuts down the tunnel...no bueno!

For the life of me I can't remember if we were offered the choice of EWR (Newark), but I do know for my upcoming NYC cruise with DCL I was also offered the choice of JFK in addition to LGA.

We are flying in early next year to do some sightseeing in NYC, can I still arrange a transfer to Laguardia post cruise? If so do they transfer luggage directly for us? Also does anyone know the cost for the luggage transfer and when you have to get off the ship?

You should be able to add transfers via the DCL website, by calling DCL, or by contacting your travel agent if you've used one. DCL needs to know in advance as it does cost to use their transfer service. For baggage, I believe they will only transfer it for you if you meet the guidelines of their on-board check-in program (certain US-based airlines after a certain time on disembarkation day). If you're flying with a non-participating airline and/or before the earliest time recommended by DCL, you will need to pick up your luggage in the port and take it with you on the transportation.

Yeah, my TA confirmed that they do not go to Newark. Darn -- since we are flying out of there I thought I could leave my car and just return post-cruise instead of having to rent a car to get home. Thanks all.

We are also flying into Liberty EWR. Just going to take NJ Transit to NY Penn Station. I also find it weird that they exclude Newark. I guess it's really no big deal, but would be nice.

Ours is for the Transatlantic next year. I thought if we flew out of Newark, we could park the car at a discount parking and it would be so convenient to return to NYC and get off the ship and go to Newark. I looked up shuttles and car services that do do that route, but their prices are prohibitive!

I was looking for the TA next year too. Luckily I do have the option of JFK so will just have to go for the slightly earlier flight.

I did get a response back from Enterprise car rental who informed me that they do provide a pick-up service at the terminal back to their office! The last time we got off a ship to rent a car (HAL cruise from Quebec to NYC), we had to take a taxi to the Hertz office. The wait to get a taxi was over an hour and the ride was only a few blocks. So this service will make a huge difference and save us time and money. So another detail checked off my list!

We just got off of the Magic from NYC. We flew into JFK and had Disney transportation to the port. We were told that we would be met at the baggage claim by a DCL rep, we were and were told to collect our luggage and wait by the welcome center near the baggage claim. We waited about 3 hours and as soon as the other parties arrived (different airlines and arrival times) and claimed their luggage we were walked out to a black shuttle van and off we went to the port. We arrived about 10:15 to the port and had a short wait. If I had known we were going to be in a regular shuttle van (not sure what I actually expected), I would have taken a taxi and saved some money. We had an evening flight so we took our luggage to a storage store and took a cab later in the day to JFK, the cost was 65.00 including tip.

We also just got off the Magic in NYC yesterday and here is the debark letter we got:



Only to LGA and JFK. We are lucky as we live less than 30 minutes to the port but my preferred airport is EWR.

Since we had so few guests onboard and only had one showtime and one dinner seating our morning breakfast schedule was different than normal last morning breakfast.

We usually do Cabanas on the last morning but since on our last breakfast was at 7:00 am we opted to go to Lumiere's.

Honestly I don't remember the MDR being open for breakfast on debarkation day. Has it always been that way?

I thought it was always a general thing that you were assigned to the main dining room you were assigned to on your last night and the seating time corresponded to your dining time - early = early and late = late. Cabanas is an option, but for cruises with enough people there are two seatings you're expected to either do your assigned MDR at your assigned time or go to Cabanas (or just leave the ship and do something on your own I suppose). But if you're early seating dinner don't plan to go to your MDR for late breakfast as the family/group assigned to that table for late dinner will be there and you'll have no table.

HA! I hear you! I know about the "don't come to late breakfast if you have early dinner" thing because on my last Fantasy cruise there was a family that showed up all their luggage in tow to a table close to mine (different service team though) - that was occupied correctly by the family that occupied it during second dinner. The luggage-in-tow family had clearly not understood the instructions. I think one of the head waiters did finally find them a table that was not occupied - but it was not in their regular section.
