I just booked our cruise for next year and swung a one bedroom suite on the Magic for a five night cruise. For those with allergies (especially folks who need to be gluten free), what was your experience in the lounge and with room service? A big reason we chose a suite (aside from space) is the convenience of having breakfast and occasionally dinner in our room, so making sure we can get good gluten free options to the room is key (like gluten free Mickey waffles).

I have not tried ordering gluten free while concierge, but I can say they have been very good about helping with food allergies in the past. Just make sure when you send in your requests email, that you note there that you have a gluten allergy. They will make sure they have stuff put aside for you. I watched them have special food made and set aside in the lounge for a girl once with an allergy.

I didn't have a gluten allergy but several others and they were always wonderfully accommodating. In the lounge, they will show you what you can't have and if you're worried about cross contamination, they will also prepare seperate plates for you as well.

Make sure you tell them about the allergies before you set sail. They always have had great options on board. Also if you're not happy while on board, speak with the manager in the dining rooms. They really helped when I was struggling with desserts on board (there is only so many Mickey Bars I can eat.... 😂)

I can't really comment on how this will be handled on the Magic, but if it is anything like what we experienced in the Wish concierge lounge, it wasn't a very, good experience. I was traveling with a friend who is gluten-free and, though it was noted on the reservation, the staff in the concierge lounge was really not prepared - there were very few things readily available for her to eat and when she wanted something, she typically had a to wait a very long time to have something prepared. It got to the point that she didn't really want to eat anything in the lounge anymore. The staff in the MDRs and Palo were, above and beyond, ready to accommodate. She spoke with our server each evening regarding the next evening's menu and her apps, entrees, desserts were always ready to go and she had a variety of choices. Our server also helped her with her gluten needs on Castaway Cay (though the staff there messed the order up - but that is a whole other story). I think you will be fine with room service as that is not delivered from concierge. I would probably mention the gluten allergy to the concierge staff upon arrival and maybe even try to speak with the concierge food/beverage staff to see if they could please have some things made in advance for you during the lounge food service times.

I wonder if the problems on the Wish were simply because they are so busy. We have sailed with a dear friend who is gluten free, and we had no problems on any of the other ships. I cannot remember when she joined us, but I think it was the Magic and the Dream. Either way, I remember for sure no problems on the Magic and saw other people taken care of with allergies on other ships in the lounge. I would make sure you have them note your account, and I would certainly remind them once aboard when you are initially greeted by the concierge staff. I would personally call again to shoreside concierge before sailing just to make sure the notes are really on the file. There has recently been a dustup or two at the WDW resorts about allergies and mistakes being made. I do not know if it is the same on DCL, but I know they are trying to get it back under control and make sure no mistakes are made.

I wasn’t in concierge, but I have several allergies and have done a 7 night cruise on the Wonder. They were amazing with my needs. They would bring me the menu for the next evening after dinner and let me order what I wanted and prepared the same dishes (or with substitutes) for me to have for my next meal. As with room service, one time I was so seasick I couldn’t go to main dining, they had my meal brought up to my room for me. other than that I didn’t really order from room service, but overall had an amazing experience and delicious food on board.
